WHY CTE?
Former First Lady, Michelle Obama speaks to students and community
leaders about Career Technical Education. January 2015
“A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY IS NOT YOUR ONLY OPTION”
WHAT IS SUCCESS COACHING?Grounded in research, the sense of belonging and mattering is a huge contributor to successful student
outcomes. The success coaching model requires high levels of intrusive outreach to various groups of students to ensure their success with proactive measures vs. reactive measures. The success coach provides student advocacy beyond the classroom. Coaches are integrally involved with all facets of a student’s academic,
personal, and future professional success.
Tovar, Esau, "A Conceptual Model on the Impact of Mattering, Sense of Belonging, Engagement/Involvement, and Socio-Academic Integrative Experiences on Community College Students’ Intent to Persist" (2013). CGU Theses & Dissertations. Paper 81. http://scholarship.claremont.edu/cgu_etd/81

STUDENT CENTERED FOCUSOur goal at Washtenaw Community College is always retention, completion, and student success. Exposing
students to opportunities and resources across campus has proven to be successful. When students are plugged in they preform better. The same for those students in academic jeopardy. When they are plugged into the
institution, they know that they belong and matter.
