Where is Joomla going?Joe LeBlanc

The Past

“Joomla will fail because...”

Things Joomla used to lack

• Valid Markup

• Multi-level categories

• Customizable ACL

• Support for SSL on specific pages

Yet Joomla is still around!

Technology changes over time

• We patch in mature technologies

• New features keep Joomla fresh

• However, features aren't goals

Joomla 3.0 brings new features

• Bootstrap-based frontend markup

• Complete admin panel overhaul

• Responsive design throughout

We could spend hours going over every new feature in Joomla

3.0, but that wouldn't tell you where Joomla is going.

Joomla has to have a long-term vision that drives the project into

the future.

The features that serve the needs of all four roles simultaneously are the ones that drive us into

the future.

Few pieces of software serve the needs of all four groups

simultaneously.

This is something unique about Joomla.

Conclusion

• Joomla needs features, but they aren't the essence of the project.

• Joomla keeps the bigger picture in mind.

• The future depends on serving programmers, designers, implementers, and end users simultaneously.

Thank you!

This presentation used the Joomla! logo, which represents the software we all know, love, and write together. Use of this logo does not imply endorsement of this presentation by either the Joomla! Project or by Open Source Matters. Any color mis-coordination is strictly my fault.
