Editor’s Message Greetings to all!
Daniel J. Lobb
Editor and President-Elect
He drew a deep breath. "Well, I'm back," he said. --Samwise Gamgee Last lines of The Lord of the Rings, Chapter 'The Grey Havens'. Colleagues of Wayne County, I always find a bit of a euphoric letdown right after the MPA-ACE wraps up. Maybe it's coming off an adrenaline rush, maybe it's sleep-deprivation, who knows? I'm sure that most of you are saying, "I just want to sleep, Dan!" As for me, I always get this sense of wanting the "party" to go on (I could hang out indefinitely), looking at what WCPA has done, and wondering...........
What's next?
Congratulations to Maria Young on receiving the Fred W. Arnold Public Relations Award, and to Greg Baise for receiving the Bowl of Hygeia. You both have reset the bar on the example we, as WCPA members, can make to demonstrate the best of our profession. Maria and Greg, this is only the beginning... Congratulations to Speaker of the House John Mohler and Vice-Speaker Sandy Taylor on a superlative House of Delegates session (chock full of activity and debate on the floor), and to being reelected to your respective positions. You are the shining example for WCPA to the rest of the MPA Locals assembled, proving that WCPA has the best interests of our profession at heart. Thank You from me as the President-Elect to our
other five Delegates: Greg Baise, Mark Bomia, Matt Duprey, Bob Jarosz, and Sarah Kirk; also a thank-you to Maria Young and Doug Samojedny for serving as Alternates. I am privileged to have also served as a Delegate, and am reminded that "one becomes excellent when they surround themselves with excellent people." We continue our tradition of having a full turnout of all our Delegates for the House Session; my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your service. Thank You to the tiger team who helped compose and wordsmith our Resolutions, which were both Enrolled for consideration by the MPA Executive Board. Well done, all! A much-appreciated thanks also goes out to the other member of the "Acceptance Speech Tag-Team" for helping me help a mutual friend on a tight timetable. You know who you are, and I owe you

another one! Congratulations to all of WCPA on receiving the Local Association Achievement Award. The chance to make the impact we make for our profession is the true award, but it is nice to get a pat on the back from our Parent Organization. Yet, I wonder.....
What's next?
We have three inactive Local Associations/counties surrounding our own area--Washtenaw, Monroe, and Livingston. While it is the mission of MPA, particularly the LADC, to do everything to revitalize these areas, perhaps outreach will draw in members where revitalization is unlikely, or at the least, strengthen our ties to our own members in the outlying area. It's my personal opinion that we cannot let the students from U of M feel a disconnect in the interim. We've had success in drawing students for the Law Review; what other ways can we bring them to the table? We've begun a great tradition of a Health Fair at St. John's Armenian, with at least one additional event being planned. Can we manage more? We have a great new social event in Feather Bowling (put me down for two, Bob!), and are continuing our Tiger outing. What else can we do to attract new/lapsed membership? John, Sandy, Mark, Doug, and I saw some innovations from Genesee County, both on their use of their website and some business practices. What ideas can we import, and possible improve upon? Bring your ideas, along with a friend, to our next meeting, March 20th at 7:30pm at the Dearborn Comfort Inn (the old Hampton). Please send your Agenda items to Doug and Sarah so we can, as Doug says, "spend money like Schaut." I always find myself coming away from the ACE feeling a sense of renewal/rededication to our profession; to avoid going on forever, I will leave you by saying,
What's next?
It's up to you. Here's to continued success in 2012! Onward and Upward, Dan Lobb, WCPA President-Elect
