Editor’s Message Greetings to all!

Daniel J. Lobb

Editor and President-Elect

He drew a deep breath. "Well, I'm back," he said. --Samwise Gamgee Last lines of The Lord of the Rings, Chapter 'The Grey Havens'. Colleagues of Wayne County, I always find a bit of a euphoric letdown right after the MPA-ACE wraps up. Maybe it's coming off an adrenaline rush, maybe it's sleep-deprivation, who knows? another one! Congratulations to all of WCPA on receiving the Local Association Achievement Award. The chance to make the impact we make for our profession is the true award, but it is nice to get a pat on the back from our Parent Organization. Yet, I wonder.....

What's next?

We have three inactive Local Associations/counties surrounding our own area--Washtenaw, Monroe, and Livingston. While it is the mission of MPA, particularly the LADC, to do everything to revitalize these areas, perhaps outreach will draw in members where revitalization is unlikely, or at the least, strengthen our ties to our own members in the outlying area. It's my personal opinion that we cannot let the students from U of M feel a disconnect in the interim. We've had success in drawing students for the Law Review; what other ways can we bring them to the table? We've begun a great tradition of a Health Fair at St. John's Armenian, with at least one additional event being planned. Can we manage more? We have a great new social event in Feather Bowling (put me down for two, Bob!), and are continuing our Tiger outing. What else can we do to attract new/lapsed membership? John, Sandy, Mark, Doug, and I saw some innovations from Genesee County, both on their use of their website and some business practices. What ideas can we import, and possible improve upon? Bring your ideas, along with a friend, to our next meeting, March 20th at 7:30pm at the Dearborn Comfort Inn (the old Hampton). Please send your Agenda items to Doug and Sarah so we can, as Doug says, "spend money like Schaut." I always find myself coming away from the ACE feeling a sense of renewal/rededication to our profession; to avoid going on forever, I will leave you by saying,

What's next?

It's up to you. Here's to continued success in 2012! Onward and Upward, Dan Lobb, WCPA President-Elect
