DESCRIPTION

We also can classify the traffic into different groups same with DIP. For different traffic groups, provisioning or dynamically negotiating the master bridge to forward the traffic. In the stable state, the master and backup bridge share the same SDB per ring through the synchronization mechanism. In case of the master bridge fails, there is no need to update the other RPR bridges SDB, because the master and backup bridges share the same virtual MAC address. There are two mechanisms to detect if the master bridge fails. One is if the backup bridge can’t receive the messages from master continuously for x times, then the backup bridge knows that the master bridge has failed. The other is the backup bridge can monitor the TP database periodically, as a result has the knowledge of the master bridge’s state information. VMRP brief overview

• To reuse the VRRP (Virtual Router Redund

ancy Protocol) mechanism in the interconne

ction RPR network.

• The right figures shows the function views o

f the interconnection RPR bridges and the r

elationship between the RPR ports and ring

connections.

• When use VMRP, as show in the top right fi

gure, bridge C1 and C2 shares the two VMA

Cs, VMAC1 for the left RPR ring, VMAC2 fo

r the right RPR ring.
