Videogames

They’re only a waste of time if you suck at them.

What is a Videogame?

• A Videogame is a virtual reality of sorts, it is a game that is played with a controller or mouse and keyboard, and is programmed with computers so you can take control of a character and control them through a storyline.

Current Popular Systems

• Currently, there are 3 systems that dominate the market,• In the United States, the Xbox 360 is the most popular

system.• In Japan, the Ps3 is most popular.• And there is the Wii, but I don’t know where its popular,

and honestly, its in 3rd place right now.• And I have to mention PC, even though its not a system,

it is graphically the most advance, since the best it can play is what you can afford, however, if you want a good Gaming PC, look forward to spending $2000 or more.

How did they start?

• The First videogame created was a game called “Tennis for Two” in 1958 which you played on a Brookhaven National Laboratory oscilloscope. Years later, the company that produced the Atari was started, and from there on, Videogame technologies began advancing.

Different Genres

• RPG (Role playing game)• FPS (First Person Shooter)• Platformer• Action/Adventure

RPG (Role playing game)

• A Role Playing Game is a game where you play as a character which is following a storyline. Most games seem like they would follow this category, but for some reason in the Videogame world, RPG usually indicates a Turn based type of game play. Turn based, (usually used in the Final Fantasy franchise) usually means that fighting enemies happens in an encounter, where you and your party members select attacks and engage with the enemy taking turns.

FPS (First Person Shooter)

• First Person Shooter is a game type that didn’t start appearing untill videogame technology advanced further than games like pac-man or early Final Fantasy games. A First Person Shooter game is where your point of view is that if you yourself were seeing the game. This type of “View” is most common for shooting games (thus why its called FPS) but there are some unique games that use First Person Sword Fighting, (FPSF) like games in The Elder Scrolls Series.

Platformer

• You’ve heard of Super Mario right? Well, that’s a platformer. A Platformer game, often referred to as “Side Scrolling” is where you control a character on a flat, 2 dimensional play field, moving either to the left or right. Surprisingly, even though this style is rather old, it is still applied successfully in recent games, such as the popular Little Big Planet.

Action/Adventure

• Action Adventure is, well, games that consist of action and adventures. These can be first person, third person, or side scrolling, its really all about the storyline. A good example of action adventure games is any of the games from the Legend of Zelda series.

Popular Series

• Some popular videogame series include;• Final Fantasy• The Legend of Zelda• Super Mario• Metal Gear• Halo• Devil May Cry• Call of Duty• Battlefield• … And many more.

My Favorite Games

• My Favorite games / series are Final Fantasy series, The Elder Scrolls series, the Metal Gear series, Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, the Dragon Age series, the Battlefield series, and many more that I can’t think of.

Why I Think Videogames Are Awesome.

• I think Videogames are awesome because they give people a chance to escape from reality, and we all know, reality can be boring sometimes.
