– Adequate spacing between two undulator sections at IP2
Bigger vertical separation, smaller aperture at IP
– <10-10 Torr in the cooling sections with both beams
Low desorption and sufficient pumping (NEG coating and lump pumps)
• Schedule - high
– Adequate time and manpower for installation in RHIC tunnel
Two shutdowns - one for diagnostics relocation? One “long” shutdown?
• Cost - medium
– Manpower for RHIC Modification may not be sufficient
Start detailed layout early to better understand the installation effort
Overall Contingency: ~ 31%

• No major mechanical interference of undulator sections at IP2
• Successful development of NEG coating for the cooling section
beam pipes
• Sufficient shutdown time and manpower between physics runs for
RHIC modification and installation of cooling sections
• Cost of vacuum pumps, valves & monitoring is based on catalog
price and historical cost
• Cost of vacuum chambers is based on recent ERL purchase,
historical cost and engineering judgment
