OUR GOAL

@JAMcArthur

to brainstorm ways to innovate in the classroom

by integrating technology

that matches our pedagogical aims

@JAMcArthur

YOUR TASK

choose one course in which

you’d like to integrate technology

write down a few of your student learning outcomes

(what should students be able to

know, think, make, or do

when they finish the course)

The Assignment

JoHari Window 2.0

I modified a version of a well-developed interpersonal

communication tool that asks others to rate a participant on a list of

adjectives. Then, the participant rates herself. By comparison, the

participant is able to see herself through the eyes of others.

The Assignment

Twitter Exam Review

Students, who had already made course Twitter accounts for another

assignment, used Twitter to review together for an upcoming exam

on the theories of public relations. Each student was given one of

the topics that would be on the exam. Students used a course

hashtag to identify exam tweets.

The Assignment

Podcast to accompany a literature review

Each student conducted a literature review of a research topic

which ended with a research question. Then, each student created a

case study based podcast with an existing small group to investigate

answers to the question.

Students used the free software Audacity to create these podcasts.

The Assignment

A scavenger hunt for items left behind

Students were asked to take 7 minutes to leave the classroom and

to find, photograph, and email one item that someone left behind on

our campus.

I organized all of these images into a quick powerpoint and we held

a discussion on questions about the “communication of value” using

the resulting presentation.
