6th Annual Usergroup www.leicestershireparishcouncils.org

What is Tourism?

• Tourism is all about people, places and experiences…

• Tourism is about what we all do, at leisure and in business…

• “A thriving and sustainable visitor economy is integral to creating a sense of place. It has far reaching impacts on the economic and social wellbeing of local people and their environment”

Rural Services Survey 2009 – Leicestershire and Rutland

Matthew Kempson

Policy Officer, Leicestershire County Council

Outline

• What is the Rural Services Survey? and Why do we undertake it?

• What is the process this year?

• Timetable and next steps

The Rural Services Survey?

• Annual survey of rural services – monitor change in provision

• Includes – retail, community, leisure, healthcare, transport

• Established as Rural Trends – Countryside Agency - LRP

• Purposes

1) Inform delivery priorities (LRP, Leicestershire Together)

2) Add value to Leicestershire Villages – Find My Nearest

• Rural Services Survey report 2008 - http://www.ruralcc.org.uk/ruralservicesreview2007-08.html

The Process

• Rely on support of Clerks and Parish Councillors - questionnaire

• Dual approach for 2009 (less onerous on Clerks!)

1) Assessment of local services (validation)

2) Questionnaire survey (other service provision)

• Will receive e-mail when live (end March)

• So what can you expect?

Event Chair

Martin TraynorLeicestershire Chamber of Commerce

Questionnaire• On-line completion (link in Resources page)

• Other aspects of rural service provision – community activities, groups and other services available within your parish

• Identify other key services not included within table

What’s next?• Currently undertaking final preparation work

• Will be contacting Councils – end of March

• Responses by end of May – qualify for prize draw!

• Report in August 2009

• Feeding into revision of Places Priorities within SCS
