brought some in today. Rick Hayman described his impression of Bingo. Tom Setchel provided us an update on the Bio Gas project

President’s Message Did you read the article in the April issue of The Rotarian, titled “The Case for Helping Others”?

I liked it. Many times, I’ve heard people talk about the “Good Old Days.” I’m old enough to re-

member days when we didn’t have home air conditioning and had to change the oil in our car eve-

ry thousand miles.

Remember when the guy at the gas station filled your tank and checked your oil every time

you filled up? Today, if you need assistance at the pump, you dial a phone number. Better have a

cell phone in your car and it better be charged.

Back to The Rotarian, the article talks about global changes in the last 20 years. We have had

enormous progress in poverty reduction, income growth, health and education. Today we have

less war and more democracy. A new generation of leaders are moving societies in directions ben-

eficial to more citizens than ever before.

Developing countries have greater access to global markets, to better agriculture techniques

and better health technologies. They have cleaner water and they have cell phones.

Can Rotary take credit for these improvements? Is Rotary working to keep our momentum

going? It wasn’t that many years back that the only grants available from Rotary were global.

You needed Rotary Clubs in two countries to contribute before a grant would be awarded.

This year we gave a chunk of change to Charlotte County’s Imagination Library with matching

dollars from Rotary District 6960. Not only is Rotary Serving Humanity around the world, but

right here in Charlotte County as well.

.

Invocation Dear God, Where there is hatred in this world, let Rotary bring love. Where there is darkness, let

Rotary bring light. Where there is sadness, let Rotary bring joy. It is in giving that we receive. It

is in serving others that we find our deepest fulfillment and the true meaning of life. Amen

Our speaker today is Judy Peter. She is a registered Therapy Animal instructor . She

will be talking about the Pet Partners program. Their therapy program is a leader in

the field. If you are interested in volunteering in your community by sharing a be-

loved pet with others, this program could be just what you are looking for. Their vol-

unteers choose where they would most like to donate their time and determine their

own schedule and level of commitment. Pet partners teams are widely regarded as the

best prepared and most professional and are welcomed in thousands of venues

throughout the country. Whether you feel passionate about a cause, like Alzheimer’s

or you enjoy working with specific populations, such as veterans. Please consider

becoming involved with this program. For more information, visit Pet partners.org. Speaker Line Up
