Join us for a grace-filled conversation as we first explore the dimensions of the marriage sacrament and the purpose of the annulment process. This session also has a second aim, and that is, to name the real-life struggles that can exist within a marriage and why we need to rethink the way we think and speak about this sacrament. In addition, we will discern ways we as a church community can and should (better) walk alongside those experiencing marital stress and the impending reality of divorce. Jan. 19th, check-in from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and presentation from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Emmaus Hall, Saint John's University, Collegeville. Free event. Lunch provided following presentation. THE
JOHN BAPTIST of Collegeville
A Note from Fr. Greg Miller, O.S.B.
MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR THE
CELEBRATION OF THE 51ST WORLD DAY OF PEACE 2018
“Migrants and refugees: men and women in search of peace The wisdom of faith fosters a contemplative gaze that recognizes that all of us belong to one family, migrants and the local populations that welcome them, and all have the same right to enjoy the goods of the earth, whose
destination is universal, as the social doctrine of the Church teaches.
When we turn that gaze to migrants and refugees, we discover that they do not arrive empty-handed. They bring their courage, skills, energy and aspirations, as well as the treasures of their own cultures; and in this
way, they enrich the lives of the nations that receive them. We also come to see the creativity, tenacity and spirit of sacrifice of the countless individu-als, families and communities around the world who open their doors and
hearts to migrants and refugees, even where resources are scarce.
A contemplative gaze should also guide the discernment of those responsible for the public good, and encourage them to pursue policies of
welcome, within the limits allowed by a correct understanding of the com-mon good.
Those who see things in this way will be able to recognize the seeds of peace that are already sprouting and nurture their growth. Our cities,
often divided and polarized by conflicts regarding the presence of migrants and refugees, will thus turn into workshops of peace.”
On January 7, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the Cath-olic Church in Minnesota will observe Immigration Sunday. This annual observance is a day to show support for our immigrant brothers and sis-ters. For the 2018 observance, we have been asked to draw special atten-tion to the uncertainty surrounding the Deferred Action for Childhood Ar-rivals — or DACA — program. As part of immigration Sunday, I invite you to participate in a postcard campaign to your elected representative in Congress urging passage of the DREAM Act in sup-port of DACA youth. Postcards will be available at mass.
Together we go to God, Fr. Greg

Wisdom for a New Year 2018 Yearning for a new way will not produce it. Only ending the old way can do that. You cannot hold onto the old, all the while declaring that you want something new. The old will defy the new; The old will deny the new; The old will decry the new. There is only one way to bring in the new. You must make room for it. —Neale Donald Walsch

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph The Holy Family calls us back to our roots, to a simple childlike trust in God. Joseph and Mary knew that they were entrusted with a gift, the very light of God. It is this light who is Christ who reveals to us how our family relationships, whatever form they take, are to work. He alone can bring healing to division and peace where there is discord. All we have to do is listen and find Christ. Hope and courage are often difficult to come by. The Holy Family demonstrates very clearly that all is possible with God when one puts faith in him.
Annual Parish Council Workshop The Parish Council and Finance Council will gather on Satur-day, January 6th at 9:00 a.m. at the St. John’s Guesthouse for the annual Parish Council Goal Setting Workshop.
