TK BREMEN

The TK Bremen is a cargo ship flying the flag of Malta that has failed the 16 December 2011 on the coast of Brittany in Southern France by creating extensive media coverage and intense controversy.

The bulk of modest size built in 1982 in a shipyard in Busan in South Korea has been since its launch, the successive ownership of several shipowners sometimes changing pavilion.

Regularly inspected it presents no major safety defects at the time of the grounding.

On December 15 the ship leaves the port of Lorient, where he has just unload its cargo, while the Joachim storm is announced.

The captain decided to anchor away from the island of Groix in front of Lorient to pass it.

During the gale, the ship is unable to maintain its anchor and after several attempts to regain a safe mooring, the vessel ran aground on the night of December 16 on the south coast of Morbihan without

victim but by creating a moderate pollution of the site.Too damaged to be repaired it is dismantled in January 2012 on the same site of the sinking.

A month later, the dune area where the ship ran aground completely rehabilitated. The accident raises a

controversy because the port authorities are accused of having left the ship to sea when a storm was announced. The report of the Investigation Bureau sea events, made in April 2012, involves bad decisions

taken by the captain of the TK Bremen on the night of the tragedy.
