President’s Message Dawn Schneider
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Jer-sey Shore Region. My name is Dawn Schneider, and I’ve been a member of Jersey Shore for the past 20 years. During that time I’ve been happily driving my ’93 964 and living in Millstone Township
where the curvy country roads are a Porsche lover’s dream!
While I’ve only been a truly active member of Jersey Shore
for the past 7 years or so, I’ve held different board positions during that time and have found it to be really rewarding. The people who make up the Club are so passionate about the Brand, and I find it very interesting to understand the different reasons we all love our cars!
I look forward to meeting those of you I haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet. And I especially look forward to hearing from
you as to how we make the Club even more interesting/relevant/fun. To that point, we plan to have more open meetings so that we can hear how you feel and understand what you’re looking for. In the interim, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any and all questions or suggestions.
Enjoy the last days of summer!

Oktoberfest Cruise and Lunch October 13, 2018
Come join us for a fun filled Oktoberfest Day! The plan is to meet at the Cheesequake Rest
area on the GSP at 9:30am on Saturday 10/13. Departure time will be 9:45 sharp—so don’t be late! We will caravan together up the New York State Thruway experiencing the beautiful fall foliage. Noon lunch reservations are at The Mountain Brau House where we’ll enjoy delicious
German cuisine. Nothing like a good bratwurst, schnitzel and beer to celebrate Oktoberfest! After lunch, for those who’d like to shop and walk off a bit of lunch, charming New Paltz is
minutes away. There are wonderful antique stores and art galleries to wander through. We will leave at our leisure to once again view that beautiful foliage from the other direction!
Please R.S.V.P. to Dawn Schneider no later than 10/5 at c21993@aol.com
Looking forward to seeing all of you!

DEALER’S PERSPECTIVE
By Scott Patterson My name is Scott Patterson and I am the newest Sales Consultant here at Porsche Monmouth. After a long career in Information Technology, I joined the team in May 2018. Many of you know me from Red Bank Cars & Coffee. I started that gathering with the help of a few car buddies back in 2010 when my wife and I purchased our 1988 Carrera. There were no “C&C” events nearby so we started one at the Grove in Shrews-bury. That first day we had about six cars. Since then we have had a few days with well over a hundred cars. In addition, Red Bank (the town) recently asked if it would be possible to host a second gathering in down-town Red Bank. Now, as long as the weather cooperates, we meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month in Shrews-bury and on the 4th Sunday in Red Bank. We have both a Facebook page and an Instagram account. If you have never attended a Cars & Coffee, please consider doing so. Quite a few JSR PCA members attend regu-larly. This is not a car show. Folks just show up with their cars, chat with fellow enthusiasts and, yes, some-times grab a cup of coffee. : ) Growing up I was always a Porsche guy while my brother was a Ferrari guy. I always picked the Por-sche Matchbox or Hot Wheel, and he went right for the Ferraris. My grandmother made me a Porsche crest “latch hook” close to 40 years ago, and I still have it. Send me a note and I’ll send you a picture! When I turned 40, my wife had a cake made for me and it had the Porsche crest on it. I am trying to say that I’ve been a Porsche fan for a long time. I do love our Carrera but there are so many Porsches that are special to me. Fa-vorite Porsche of all time? Carrera 904 GTS. That being said, Russ knows I love his 914 Can-Am LE! I was proud and excited to represent Porsche Monmouth recently at the Thunder in the Pines event. What a great two days of fun and learning we all had. I have been down to NJMP a few times and it was nice to refresh myself with the Thunderbolt track. I certainly don’t want to leave anyone out but special thanks to Dawn, Greg, Rob and Alan for helping me in the planning stages. They made it easy for me to help out with my first event! I also want to take a moment to thank my instructor, Kevin Kerr. He was perfect for me and I hope I didn’t scare him too much! In addition, thanks to my “garage mates” Nick & Joe for providing some great advice, comradery and lunch at the Finish Line! I am glad we supplied enough water, those were some HOT days! We look forward to continuing our close ties with the club and it is our expectation and hope that we can improve the relationship even further in the future. We look forward to seeing you all soon, and in Octo-ber we’ll have a great new space to show you all. One other quick note before I sign off for this issue of The Shoreline. Earlier this week I delivered my first MY19 Carrera T. I love the car! This one was optioned by my customer exactly to fit his needs. He has it now and has sent me some great feedback! If anyone out there is interested in a Carrera T, just let me know. Come in and say hello or send me a note at scottpatterson@penskeautomotive.com

“Tech” Night at Bodymotion, August 9, 2018 By Mike Bavaro, photos by Bill Tice
The fall meeting here at Bodymotion is very different than the spring get together. Traditionally we have utilized the Jersey Shore PCA monthly meeting in August as a technical inspection night for the upcoming JSR Drivers Education event which is the following week. Tech inspection is a vehicle look over to determine if the vehicle is “fit” for on track use. Porsche Club national ad-vises the regions of the requirements and these minimum safety related issues are transformed into a check list. If all items are checked as “passed” the completed form is signed by the technician and stamped by the company or individual performing the in-spection. This completed form is your “ticket” to get on track. The morning of the event the car owner/driver presents him or herself to the tech line at the track, the forms are turned in and exchanged for a sticker that basically says your car is ready and able to go on track. Pretty straight forward and at each August tech night we perform this inspection, at no charge for club members and basical-ly all entrants to the track D.E. The highlight and benefit to members is that they get to accompany the car and the tech into the shop. This helps understand better the basic safety items and to learn more about your car and that’s what this club is all about, learning and interacting with other members. I don’t know about you, but I have met many people thru my 40 years as a club member. Now that puts us at a point where we have left out a segment of the club. Those members who would otherwise attend but feel that the “tech” part of the meeting is not their “cup of tea”, as they say. So this year we began to change that, and, with your help, we can get more members their membership’s dues worth in coming years. Here is the proposal, we hope to get your e mails, snail mails, verbal, or smoke signals to get feedback, remember it is as much YOUR club as it is ours. We would like to take more advantage of all the time, effort and money that is put into our spring “GET THE RUST OFF YOUR ROTORS” event so how about doing it on a Saturday in May? This versus a weeknight? The second idea is to incorporate more members into the August TECH night. We began this year to make the invitation to all. In the past it was more of a down and dirty check the cars and send ‘em packing, after all it’s a weeknight followed by a work day so let’s get done early. But from the early feedback, many people wanted to stay longer. This year we offered food and refreshments, and, to involve more “non-track” members we offered a free safety inspection on their street driven cars. The response was clear and convincing! We teched over 20 cars in the weeks before the event while the member’s cars were here for repairs, modification, brake fluid flush, whatever. The tech is still offered at no charge as long as other work is being performed. So the remainder of cars needing “tech” inspection was about 12 cars. We did tech inspections on those 12 cars signed up for the DE at New Jersey Motorsports Park along with non- members who choose to participate in our track event. That left another dozen or so members who took the time to come to Bodymotion, enjoy the conversations, the drink and the food and get a “free” safety inspection. And, they got to come into the shop, look under their cars and talk to a certified technician as he performed their safety inspection. So despite the lateness of our announcement that tech night had expanded, the meeting was well attended and the members were all appreciative over the openness and low key approach and knowledge of our technicians. So call or drop us a note of what YOU would like to see at next year’s August JSR get together, The first thing we need is a new name for the event!

Jersey Shore PCA Annual Clam Bake Sunday, September 16, 2018 – 12pm - 3pm
Last year’s Clam Bake was a huge success in terms of attendance and good times. We are the Jersey Shore Porsche Club and a party on the beach seems a no-brainer. Even with threatening weather the turn out and smiles were as big as the Sea Bright beach that we were on. Gary Tucker has friends who own the Donovan’s Reef beach restaurant and he asked them to give us our own Porsche parking lot, our own deck, live music and great food. The lobsters were perfect and the beer and wine were plentiful. (Liquor is available at the cash bar) I remember writing a post event article last year and the comments we received were simple and to the point “I won’t miss next year’s event!” So here is your opportunity, no regrets this year. So far Donovan’s has not put a cap or limit to how many club members and families we can have, but I suggest getting signed up early this year! Please submit your intention to join us (RSVP) by Friday September 7th. Our tourmeister, Bill Casey is handling registration, please send him an e-mail at spdstr@verizon.net with your intentions and number of people in your party. He can reply and give you information on how to pay. Each guest gets beer and wine plus lobster and all the fixin’s for $55, don’t miss this “end of summer and no tourist” party!

“Thunder in the Pines” Recap By Greg Pfremmer
Another year of great weather blessed our 10th Annual Driver’s Education event held on the Thunderbolt Racetrack at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. It is hard to believe we have been hosting this event for 10 years now. Each year we get new drivers and each year it is thrilling to talk with them and see the progression of their driving abilities throughout the 2 day event. Everyone we spoke to indicated they had a great time and are looking forward to next years’ event. There is nothing more gratifying than to see someone participate in their first DE event. I had a particularly good student this year and to see his progression from the beginning to the end was very rewarding. Registration and tech inspection kicked off our two day drivers education event on the morning of August 15. The drivers then assembled in front of the classroom and safety items were reinforced along with track conditions and misc. items of interest. The instructors assembled in the class-room for briefings about the track and students they were assigned. The track went hot at 9:00 am and we were off and running. Although 90% of the cars on track were Porsches, we did have a mix of other marques. The weather was great on Wednesday and Thursday and we had cars on track right up until the closing bell each day. Thanks to the many volunteers we had a very safe and fun event with no incidents. The Jersey Shore Region hosted a beer, soda and snack night on Wednesday evening after the first day of the event which was enjoyed by all. Drivers got to meet and talk about the day’s activities. I once again have to thank Rob Cimler, our Registrar. Rob and I have been doing this for the past 10 years, and Rob has always made a difficult job seem easy. This is Rob’s last year as registrar and Paul Solk will be the incoming registrar. Rob and Paul worked together on this event and everything went extremely smooth considering the normal craziness of last minute registrations, run group swaps and more. Rob and Paul put a lot of time and effort in-to making sure everyone is registered and assigned to their proper run groups. Our instructor group really came through as usual and made for a very smooth event. Their help is greatly appreciated. Adam McInnis is our chief instructor for the past 10 years and we rely on Adam for his expertise each year. Rob Cimler, Mike Gussis and I handled the classroom duties and got our new drivers ready for their first time out on track. Our Tech inspection group led by Brian O’Sullivan moved the cars through the tech line in a safe and timely manor during the two mornings of tech inspection - thank you guys. Bill Kreig was a great help handling the staging area for the event and was really appreciat-ed. Bill has many years of DE’s and having someone with his knowledge in that position was great. Thanks to Dawn Schneider who relieved Bill at times and worked the registration desk. Thank you Bill Tice for taking the photographs you see here in this issue of the Shoreline.

Porsche Monmouth in West Long Branch was the sponsor for our event and they are a tremendous supporter of our club. We owe a great deal of gratitude for all the things they do for us. In addition Scott Patterson (from Porsche Monmouth) attended the event and had water on hand for the participants. We hope everyone will reciprocate when it comes time to buy their next Porsche and visit Porsche Monmouth in Long Branch. Thank you Mike & Margaret Bavaro and the Bodymotion team for your support and keeping our vehicles on track. Thank you for your continued support of our Region and all the things you do for us including free tech inspections, tech nights and all the unsung things you guys do. Please know you are appreciated! Our next driving event is only 11 months away! We look forward to seeing all of our friends and enjoying the camaraderie and good times our Driver’s Education Events bring. I hope I will see you there.

A Jersey Shore Event for All THIS IS YOUR CLUB, IT’S TIME TO GET INVOLVED!
By Mike Bavaro
Beginning with the pre-event tech meetings and continuing thru our Thunder in the Pines track days, we encouraged and as Greg Pfremmer has written, we all were pleasantly re-warded with new faces and some faces we haven’t seen in a while. Our club is working hard to appeal to a broader spectrum of Porsche ownership. After all some of us even drive Porsche SUV’s and four door models so why not appeal to all tastes and ages? As we approach 2019, we ask (the entire board and members of JSRPCA) for your input on events like the Thunder in the Pines, and Clam Bakes and rallies and museum tours. We want more members and we want more members to enjoy these events that many people work so hard to offer and carry out. Many club members have volunteered their time to plan and run the events, we are all grateful to them and appreciate all the efforts. Despite the heat of August we had a great turn-out at our driver education days. We further appreciate those who offered to instruct our nov-ice group. Many of the club members who worked on this event before and during were not even driving in the event! That’s right, they volunteered their time so that everyone could en-joy the days at the track and that the club would financially profit from the entry fees collect-ed. What a great group we had willing to check out the trackside of our club. Our low key approach works every time and it is so gratifying to see how it complements our entire club, the executive board, the volunteers, members and participants. As Greg mentioned, there were no incidence reports, no injuries, a few left over refreshments and based on the smiles and comments, a great time enjoyed by all.
