• RENAISSANCE – A re-birth or art, language, literature and science that occurred in Italy during the 1300’s and lasted until the 1600’s.

• The ideals and traits of the Renaissance will spread to Northern Europe as well.

• A Renaissance Man is a man who is skilled in a variety of areas.

• A great example is Leonardo da Vinci who painted, designed weapons of war, dissected cadavers, and wrote poetry.

• PATRON – A wealthy person who supports the arts.• During the Italian

Renaissance, wealthy patrons like Lorenzo the Magnificent

pictured here, hired artists like Michelangelo to create works of art for their city-state, their family, and the

Pope.
