pictured here, hired artists like Michelangelo to create works of art for their city-state, their family, and the

Pope.

Northern Artists favored these traits:The use of OIL based paints.Fewer religious paintings – they were hired to paint family portraits, wedding portraits and outdoor scenes or village life.Wood carvings for the printing press were also common.
