•There are 187 WW1 soldiers commemorated on the Kiama Memorial Arch, with 6 medical staff.•Approx 168 WW1 soldiers were born in Kiama. 23 or 14% died during service.•Of these 168, approx. 40 are listed on the Kiama Memorial Arch.•Approx. 378 soldiers enlisted in Kiama. Of these approx. 73 or 19% died during service.
