What is this?-A group of writers -This group was used to describe people of the 1920`s who rejected American post World War I values- Showed how life was after the brutal war -Criticized American culture (themes of self-exile, indulgence, and spiritual alienation)

-Felt lost and aimless - Lack of purpose -Lost faith in traditional values

Gertrude Stein-Originally coined the term “The Lost Generation”-Born on February 3, 1874 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania

-Stein came up with the phrase after being impressed with the young car mechanics who were easy to train, and said that the older men who went through WWI were the “lost generation”

-Leading literary figure of the decade-The term Lost Generation popularized by him-Used it as two contrasting epigraphs for “The Sun Also Rises”

F.Scott Fitzgerald

-One of the best known writers of theLost Generation- “The Great Gatsby” portrayed the illusion of happiness that hides a sad sense of loneliness

-Another one of the best known authors of the Lost Generation

- Wrote “The Three Soldiers”, which was an anti-war novel
