Separation of Powers/ Checks and Balances ● The Separation of Powers is a model for the governance of a state.● A states government is divided into branches, each with separate and independent
powers with responsibility. ● They are divided into branches so one does not have more power than the other. ● These branches are the Legislature,Executive,and Judiciary.● Checks and Balances are were one branch can check to see if the other branch
doesn’t have too much power all branches are equal. ● The Executive branch can appoint members to the Judicial branch.● The Judicial have the power to restrain action to the Executive branch. ● The Legislative has the power to impeach and approve state budget to the
Executive branch.

How does the Governor and the Agencies of the Executive branch protect the citizens?● How the Governor protects the citizens: ● The Governor protects the citizens by making sure the laws do not harm us but help
keep us safe. ● The Governor helps protects the citizens by making sure the members he appoints
into the office will help keep the city safe,not bring are economic wealth down, and propose good ideas.
● The Governor also helps protects by directing the State Budget so are Agencies and Boards do not go into debt and help provide the best for the city.
● How the Agencies protects the citizens: ● DHR protects us by providing mental health options and family and children's
services. ● DPS protects us by enforcing traffic laws,helps reduce crimes,and responds to to
natural and man-made disasters. ● DOT protects us by maintaining highways and bridges,supports school
transportation,and they construct the roads to keep us safe.
Explain the Qualifications and Terms of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor
● The qualifications of the Governor and Lieutenant governor ● In order for you to be the Governor of Georgia you must be 30 years old. ● You have to live in the U.S. for 15 years old also be a citizen of the U.S. ● Also you have to be a resident of Georgia for 6 years. ● Terms for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor ● The term of office is four years with a total of two consecutive terms allowed for the
Governor. ● The term of office for the Lieutenant Governor is also fours years,but there is no
limit on the number of terms that can be served.
Explain the Elections and Duties of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor ( there are two slides)
How the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are elected:
● The Governor is elected by the citizens in a secret ballot which is held at your local courthouse.
● The Lieutenant Governor does not run on the same ticket as the candidates for the Governor,they run separately which means the winners could be from two different political parties also the Lieutenant Governor is elected by the citizens.
The duties of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor:
● The role of the Governor is suggesting new state programs and laws,proposing and directing the state budget, appointing members of the state board,may call special sessions of the legislature,and may approve or veto laws that are proposed by the legislature.

● Georgia’s Governor and Lieutenant Governor ● The current Governor of Georgia is Brian Kemp. ● The current Lieutenant Governor of Georgia is Geoff Ducan.
Human Resources Department ● The Human Resources Department is a organization that performs Human
Resource Management. ● The importance of a Human Resources is that they deal with issues related to
compensation (money,injury,or suffering) , performance management,safety,or wellness.
● The six main functions of a Human Resources is hiring or firing people,training workers,legal responsibilities,employee relations,employee benefits,or handling compensation.
● One example of a Human Resource would be to get more information on employee benefits. Another example would be compensation ( salary and pay review). Also FMLA ( family medcline lead act) It protects employee job when they are out for a long time.

Education Department ● The Department of Education manages funding and testing local educational
agencies accountable for student achievement. ● The Department of Education was formed in 1870. ● The headquarters for The Department of Education for Georgia is 205 Jesse Hill Jr.

Assessment,The Office of Finance and Business Operations,The Office of policy and External Affairs,The office of Education Support and Improvement,and the Office of Technology Services.

The Department of Public Safety ● In the Georgia a Department of Public Safety is a state or local government agency
which is often has a broad portfolio of responsibilities. ● Fire services : provides fire prevention ● EMS: provides emergency medical care and transportation ● Policing services : provides law enforcement,community policing, and outreach● The branch of government department of public safety is the executive branch ● These responsibilities are usually organized into separate agencies under a DPS
due to there diversity, though there is a critical exception in certain local jurisdiction.

The Department of Transportation ● The Department of Transportation is cabinet-level agency of the federal government
responsible for helping maintain and develop the nation’s transportation systems. ● One real life example would be when the crew workers are working on the roads
that affects us because you have to wait or go around the long way. ● Another example would be when you travel in air DOT provides the safety for all
passengers. ● Last example would be planning and supporting the movement when it comes to
rebuilding roads,bridges,and highways. ● Also DOT plays a key role by providing funding to lower levels of government to
improve the means of transport that Americans use. ● The current leader of Georgia DOT is Russell McMurry.
The Department of Economic Development● The Department of Economic Development is the states sales and marketing arm,
the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, aligning workforce education and training with in-demand jobs,and also locating new jobs for Georgia.
● One example of the DOED is that they attract tourist to georgia. ● Another example would be promoting georgia as a destination for arts and location
for film. ● Last example would be promoting georgia for music and digital entertainment
projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.
● The current leader of DED is Pat Wilson.
The Department of Natural Resources ● The purpose of DNR is to safeguard and enhance the american environment;
acquire and manage public lands and natural resources; and protect and manage indian rights and property.
● One example of DNR is that they will be out on your local lake to make sure nobody is abusing the water or animals.
● Another example would be during hunting season checking you too see if you have your license and to make sure you are not shooting led.
● Last example would be to make sure you are not shooting over the limit for whatever animal you are hunting.

How the Executive Branch plays a role with the Agencies and Enforce Laws
● The Governor is responsible for making sure laws are carried out and enforced,so State Agencies help the governor get this job done.
● State Agencies administer programs that help fulfill the executive branch’s responsibilities for the state of Georgia.
● Each Agency is headed by a board that oversees the agency and helps develop the policies of the agency.
● The board’s goal is to make sure its department runs smoothly and that laws are enforced.
● The executive branch plays a big role when it’s come to enforcing laws. ● If the Governor signs the bill,the bill becomes a law but if the governor does nothing
to the bills for forty-days,the bill becomes a law. If the Governor vetoes the bill, the bill does not become a law.
The Executive Branch’s roleThe Executive Branch’s role is to carry out and enforce laws. Enforcing a law is to ensure that the law is being followed. The power is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces.The President’s responsibility is to implement and enforce laws written by Congress. The President then appoints the head of Federal Agencies, including the Cabinet. The Cabinet and independent Federal Agencies are responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of federal laws. These departments and agencies have missions and responsibilities as widely divergent as those of the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency,the social Security Administration and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Including members of the armed forces, the Executive Branch employs more than 4 million Americans. This is the roles of the Executive Branch.
