COOL SPRINGSOur Sunday school dropped

back a bit last Sunday, owing to

the earlier hour, and the shortsession; but we hope it won't bepermanent.

Our choir and several othersfrom here attended the singing atPleasant Home Sunday. Therewere eight groups participating,

Pleasant Home, Little Elkin,Maple Springs, Cool Springs,

Pleasant Hill, Yadkin 4, Cocker-ham Trio, Bradley Duet. Owing

to the prevalence of flu so latehere we with others failed to domuch rehearsal, but the old songswere not so bad heard again andthere was a goodly number ofnew ones.

The next convention will beheld at the Old Home church.Cool Springs, and we want all thefamily, with all the grandchil-

dren and neighbors to join withus in a real old fashioned sing-ing convention. There is noquestion of your welcome here,and we say, "Thanks to the choirdirectors that so favored us."

Rev. Clete Simmons filled hisappointment here Sunday even-ing and Rev. I. W. Vestal, ourpastor, was a visitor with him.Cool Springs folks are going toProspect church near SmithtownSaturday evening, and join thegroup from Winston-Salem inthe service there. They will holda cottage prayer service withAunt Lodeem Harpe Wednesdayevening, and will go to the homeof K. M. Carter Saturday night

week.The young folks' meeting will

be as usual Sunday evening, andwe hope to have both group lead-ers, Mrs. Lucy Newman Holbrookand Mr. Carmel Tucker, present.The boys' books have arrived andmany have been distributed.We're hoping that they will usethem, too. Also it is understoodthat the boys will soon have anew pianist, thus making themeven with the girls.

A Mother's Day program willfeature the evening service forMother's Day, as owing to ourcommunion service we haven'ttime for that in the morning ser-vice, and Little Elkin is expectedto join us then.

Stacy Baptist church in Reids-ville Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simmonshad as their week-end guests Mr.Simmons parents, of Thurmond.

The children's choir was takenon a fishing trip and weinerroast Thursday evening in theNew Hope community by Rev. D.W. Day. This was promised thechildren when they did such anexcellent job in raising moneyfor our new church building. The"Red" side of the building fundcontest won in the finals, butenough money was given to makeboth the Red and Blue sides tie.

Sparta Baptist church, deliveredthe baccalaureate sermon hereSunday night, April 30. Theprogram opened with the song,"Holy, Holy, Holy" by the audi-ence. Rev. J. P. Davis offeredprayer. The girls' chorus of theschool rendered the song "Largo"

after which Mr. Howard broughthis message. The commencementprogram of the school will cometo a close May 5 and 6, at whichtime the high school will grad-uate 19 seniors.

The Boonville Beta Club held

its last meeting of the currentschool term last Friday night atthe home of Mrs. Gennie LindBrown who acted as hostess tothe group.

A short business session washeld just after the group as-sembled. At this session officersfor the term of 1939-40 wereelected. Curtis Hobson was elect-ed president: Harold Stinson,vice-president, and Miss CamShore, secretary.
