Elizabeth Taylor dazzled the world with herluminous beauty, lavish lifestyle -- and anunquenchable passion for diamonds and
jewels that was fueled by the great loves ofher life.
The late Hollywood star amassed one of theforemost jewelry collections in the world, in-cluding a 33.19-carat diamond ring and a16th century pear-shaped pearl from one ofher seven husbands, Richard Burton.
Christie's auction house, will sell her com-plete jewelry collection, valued at $30 mil-lion, in New York on Dec. 13-14.
Among the standouts is the 16th-century LaPeregrina, one of the largest and most sym-metrically perfect pear-shaped pearls in the-world, which Burton purchased for Taylor in1969 as a Valentine's Day gift.
Cartier created a ruby and diamond neck-lace from which the pearl was suspended,a design that was inspired by the famousVelazquez portraits of Spain's Queen Mar-garita and Queen Isabel wearing the pearlas a necklace. It is estimated to fetch $2 mil-lion to $3 million.
