DESCRIPTION

These are the slides from my UX Cambridge presentation. When I speak I don't put much detail on the actual slides, but there should be enough here to get my point.

TRANSCRIPT

The art & science of

UX & responsive design

“Rather than tailoring disconnected designs to each of an ever-increasing number of web devices, we can treat them as facets of the same experience.”Ethan Marcotte (2011)

Boxes everywhere

2013 plus ça change

Stop designing for mobile, design for uncertainty

Responsive design at TUI

It’s still all about people

Starting with understanding your users makes RWD easier

Question everything

So people don’t look for holidays on mobile devices? Really?

Start with people

Tell stories

What about content?

You need to model your content, to support your design

Not just modelling metadata, but also relationships between things

3 things I learned on this project...

#1) Focus on people

#2) Let go of the page

#3) Design small interactions

Design games help the team focus on small interactions

Putting the pieces together

Content out...?

Content doesn’t have primacy over design - they need to work together

Sometimes content is created to support design solutions for user goals

Mobile !rst...?

User-centred design helps us de!ne and prioritise user needs, so no need to design mobile !rst

So in summary...

#1) Focus on people#2) Let go of the page#3) Design small interactions

Keep telling stories
