ArthropodsbelongtothephylumArthropoda,whichmeans“jointedfeet,”andincludesfourlivingsubphyla.

• Chelicerata,whichincludesspiders,mites,andscorpions.Intheseanimals,thefirstpairofappendagesareoftenmodifiedasfangsorpincers,andareusedtomanipulatefood.Spidershaveeightlegs.

• Myriapoda,whichincludescentipedesandmillipedes.Alloftheseanimalsliveonland,andcanhaveanywherefromtentonearly200pairsofappendages.

• Hexapoda,whichincludestheinsects.Theseanimalsdominatetheland.Allhexapodshavethreepairs(sixappendages)ofwalkingappendages.
