I can hardly believe this is the final newsletter of the year! What a busy and memorable year it has been and to
remind you of the many great achievements and successes we have had this year, I’ve listed some of them.
Staff changes
Recently we have welcomed new staff to our team. Our vacant General Assistant position has been filled through
the merit selection process and we welcome Brandon Clark into this permanent role. Mandy Hyeronimus was
successful in gaining an Assistant Principal position, a role in which she has been acting for the last two terms. A
sad farewell goes to Carol Properzi, who has been working at Mary Brooksbank School for many years and has
recently retired and moved interstate.
Achievements and successes in 2017
This year is the third and final year of the current School Plan
cycle. A number of milestones were achieved throughout the
year, including those developed in collaboration with Passfield
Park and Beverley Park Schools, the Campbelltown SSP
Community of Schools. Some of our achievements through the
school plan include:
Continuing our journey to become a Kidsmatter school and the completion of the mural that was painted by every student onto the Infants playground wall.
A focus on dance from the Creative and Practical Arts syllabus this year culminated in our school concert based on the Alison Lester book, “Imagine”.

Developing all teachers through a structured and explicit classroom observation, feedback and mentoring cycle.
School Administration and Support Staff undertook their first cycle of an individual Performance and
Development Plan
See Saw: A new way of connecting with our families and allowing them to engage in their child’s
education was rolled out this year.
An Indigenous Outdoor Learning Space was planned with consultation with local Elders including Uncle Ivan
and Aunty Carol.
The student gymnasium was started this year and will be completed early in 2018
Congratulations to our Schools Spectacular
superstars: Tama, Goziem, Samuel, Ethan,
Moonlight and Caitlyn.
A new school plan 3 year cycle begins in 2018 and staff have collaborated over several planning sessions recently
to draft this plan. The three strategic directions for the next three years will be Wellbeing, Partnerships,
Collaboration and Relationships, and Learning and Engagement. A number of exciting initiatives are being planned
under these broad areas.
TAFE students
This term we have had three students attend a hospitality class at TAFE, along with students from Beverley Park
and Passfield Park schools. These students recently received their certificate for participation in this programme.
We are working towards having students attend TAFE or VET courses again in 2018 in a number of different
disciplines.

Classes for 2018 are being finalised now and we have hopefully placed each student in the appropriate class.
However, these classes are proposed only and there maybe some changes in 2018 for some students.
Thank you to each and every one of our Executive and teaching staff, School Learning Support Officers,
Administration staff, General Assistant, parents, families and volunteers who each play a vital role in supporting
the learning of our students.
Please enjoy a safe and well earned break over the Christmas holidays and I look forward to working with each
of you again in 2018.

Special thanks to our outgoing president Karen Buczek. Karen has given a lot to the MBS
community through her executive roles in the P & C. We owe her a huge vote of thanks.
I am looking forward to working with MBS staff & families to continue supporting our wonderful
school community. We are always looking for help as the P & C is quite small in numbers. Please
come along to a meeting, or contact one of us if you can help in any small way. You won’t be
signing your life away! We all have different gifts & together make Team MBS P & C.
Wishing everyone a special Christmas & a safe holiday break. Hope to see you next year.
