Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Happy Easter! I hope your Easter celebrations were filled with hope and love. Each Holy Week, I welcome the opportunity to walk the journey of faith; beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. It is a faith that becomes a lived experience as we are reminded through the gospel accounts, lit-urgy and in the actions of the community gathered of the path that Jesus lived and walked. Easter is also a time for friends and family and I love the opportunity of catching up with people during this break.
I attended some of the events at the Commonwealth Games which was a wonderful experience. I love seeing the energy and effort of the competitors coming together at competitions. A highlight for me was attending the final of the rhythmic gymnastics. It is just extraordinary how the gymnast can manipulate the apparatus they are controlling whether it be a ball, ribbon or clubs.
We have a number of events this term which will showcase the great things happening at Holy Spirit School to the wider community. On Tuesday 8 May, we will host principals from Cluster 11 for the Term 2 meeting. Then on Tuesday 22 May we will welcome children from Prep-Year 2 from a variety of other schools for the annual Under 8’s Day. Finally, the Blessing & Opening of our new building along with the library and playground will occur on Tuesday 5 June. I look forward to many parents and friends being involved in these events.
With every good wish,
Kim
Primary Learning Leader/Support Teacher Inclusive Education
In the first two weeks of this term Troy Giess and Zoey Secco are taking up these leadership roles in our school. It is a great opportunity for Troy and Zoey to extend their skills and knowledge in these areas.
Cross Country
Next Friday is the Holy Spirit Cross Country. Details of the events have been sent in an email and also on the next page. Please check this email to ensure your child is prepared for the day. Please note there is no tuckshop on this day.
Uniform at Holy Spirit
As part of enrolment at Holy Spirit School, all families agree to support the uniform expectations. As we enter into the cooler months please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school jumper at all times. Wearing the correct uniform helps the vision of our school, “to be inclusive”, come alive each and every day.
Social Media
Please be conscious if you are posting photos of children other than your own to any social media. It would be important to gain permission from parents/caregivers prior to any photos being posted to any forum.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Zoey Secco and her fiancé, Peter who were engaged in the holidays. We are looking forward to lots of wedding chatter in the staffroom over the coming months.

Easter – Journeying with the Risen Christ.
Over the coming weeks will continue to celebrate the Easter joy right up until the feast of Pentecost, which completes the Easter season. Thank you to the children for the way they engaged in our Easter Liturgy, sharing the Easter story.
I hope you had an enjoyable time during the Easter break. I was fortunate to attend the Commonwealth Games with my family. We went to the Swimming and Rugby Sevens. It was such a wonderful atmosphere being part of the crowd, we were in such awe of the amazing athletes. The inclusion of the para-athletes made these games very special also. The gold medal moments were exciting and something to be proud of but the moment that most stays with me is Kurt Fearnley’s win in the T54 Marathon.
“Determination. Strength. Resilience. A bit of Aussie larrikin. A lot of inner steel. These are the things that define Kurt Fearnley, not the racing wheelchair that seems an extension of his body, nor the non-functioning section of his lower spine and sacrum he was born with in the central western NSW town of Cowra 37 years ago.
"I just kept saying to myself, just fight, just fight, just fight," he said.
"I saw it [heart rate] sitting that high … I thought this is just one last crack — I'm going to race marathons until they bury me in a gutter, but I'm not going to be able to find that [effort] again.
"When you've got that green and gold on, mate, you've got to be fierce and you've got to just deal with whatever you've got to deal with.
"You put it on, and you just fight and I was thinking that the whole time."

ANZAC Day
Next Wednesday we will join with the New Farm community for the ANZAC Day Ceremony at 9am. Students need to meet at 8.45am near the memorial. One of the special people that has been at this ceremony over a number of years is Les Glover, who shares his memories and thoughts on this day. I received an email from Jan McClean (Sandakan POW Family and Friends Assoc. Qld) recently to let me know of the passing of Les “Bunny” Glover.
Project Compassion
Thank you for your wonderful support of Project Compassion last term. We raised $1712.30 – an amazing effort.
On the journey this day, accompany us
In the stories we share, inspire us
In our breaking of bread, sustain us
In our desire for you
May our hearts burn
And overflow with joy and love,
Gracious Companion.
Have a great week, God Bless, Sue Williams,
