PERSONAL STATEMENT
As a fresh graduate from the University of Hong Kong with Master of Architecture, I have strong interest on topics concerning architectural and urban design. During my postgraduate program, I have studied courses and conducted several projects on urban design, housing design and some the-matic district design, etc. I have excellent command of both written and spo-ken Chinese and English as well as fluent Putonghua. With training from my discipline, I am also good at analytical and critical thinking, which allows me to present myself in a fluent, organized and presentable manner in discussion. In addition, I am trained up with artistic sense and social awareness that enable me to design a thoughtful architecture.
The first year of practical architectural experience in Aedas Limited has equipped me with skills and capabilities that your company is looking for. As the architectural designer, I was responsible for designing the form of shop-ping complex podium by using 3D tools, during which the process of liaising with colleagues and clients under certain constraints had improved my de-sign skills as well as problem-solving skills. I also had the opportunity to visit the construction sites and communicate with site contractors and consultants directly, which further consolidated my understanding of the construction process and the sites actual conditions. All these consolidated my practical experience of architectural design and building process and further strength-ened my professional knowledge in this field. .
I have undertaken my second practical year in The Oval Partnership Ltd, which enriched my knowledge about both master planning in PRC as well as local technical tendering process. During my first four months, I had the chance to work in the Beijing Office to work on the PRC master planning drawings, construction drawings and site coordination. This experience widened my perspectives to a bigger picture of the building industry, and allowed me to gain better understanding of the construction procedure in China. Back to the Hong Kong office after this internship, I was responsible for producing tender drawings for HKU CYM Auditorium that further enhanced my knowledge of architectural standard and the expression techniques in tender documents. These valuable experiences not only opened my eyes to the wider prospect of the industry, but also further boosted my interest and determination into this architectural field.

NEGATIVE BLOCKThe Hong Kong Block is congested it has veins but no ar-teries. The leftover spaces -alley ways- have a life of their own. Due to the typical HK block type and density these spaces have been littered by all the necessary applianc-es that buildings need (ducts, ventilation fans, air intake grills, etc) as well as spaces that buildings dont simply have. The project proposes to turn the block inside out to reverse usage, the streets then become alleyways and in return alleyways are turned into public space.
The internalised block allows for a different collective life.

EVERYDAY REVOLUTION - THE ADAPTIVE JOINTS TO RECONSTRUCT COMMUNAL SPACEUnversity of Hong KongMaster of ArchitectureMArch II Spring Semester: ThesisAdvisor: Juan Du
[Kango Kuma, Japan, 1954- ]
This study is intended to learn from the joint and assemble detail from Kango Kuma. The project, Casa umbrella, is used different non-typical elements to create the architectural space. It ques-tions the used of daily tools as building material and also pro-vide the hints to look at new construction detail, such as zippers.
THESIS
This thesis investigates how the redefinition of an everyday tool transforms and rejuvenates our ev-eryday urban life.
Urban space, as a common ground for every citizen, is ironically not free for all but regulated by institu-tions. Such disjunction between human and regu-lated urban space not only creates spatial disorder, but also overspills into social and political con-flicts. In the 2014 protests in Hong Kong, umbrel-la, as an everyday tool, was given a new meaning. While its primary function is to create a protected space for its users in day-to-day life, it symbolizes peoples strive for freedom and autonomy which turns this everyday tool into a symbol of rebellion.
Through designing an adaptive joint for this de-ployable structure, this thesis looks at construct-ing temporary urban programs and using the um-brella as architectural component. The umbrella works not only as a symbol to elicit active partici-pation from citizens, but also to create an adaptive alternative space in our highly regulated city so as to revitalize peoples interactions in our urban life.
The connectors are designed as small and light-weight, which allow people easily carry and use in any condition. Through connecting the umbrel-la by using the joints, it can create the newwork of popup structure. And the perople can join in the network and to connect among themselves.

This umbrella dwelling unit was designed in 2014 sept. It com-bined with 4 umbrellas & 10 zips & 1 base canvas, then to create the portable and reversible dwelling unit.
During the occupy movement, it demostrated how individual can use affordable existing everyday tool to reconstruc the own flexible protected space.

CONCEPTIn this project, my design is to apply two type of fabric cast concrete techniques, to create a con-trasting spatial experience in the park. One is by subtraction, in order to provide the enclose, and unexpected feeling to people. another one is using many columns, to create a forest-like space, to provide the openness, but diverse space for visitors. This two parts originally is come from the same polygon, by using division, they can seperate into triangular module, so that the pavilion is easy to transport and reconstruct.

CONCEPT
This design project aims to take the strength of the position and the mo-ment for this museum, to explore the truely need of Hong Kong and its peo-ple. Hence, this museum hasnt designed the fixed programs and circulations, but is to allow the visitors and audiences to discover and make their own defination. This kind of architectural autonomy, al-low us to rethink the relationship and hierarchy between form and function.
Nowadays, the international cities like Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo, Beijing, are becoming similar, the local lost the rich-ness of idenity. Because of the monopo-ly of few international power, we can see many copy component. Therefore, my design intension is to reference the local city fabric, to explore the complexity of the spatial relationship. Also to encour-age the individual power to against the top-down control. Hence, the museum of discovery is an exploration of unexpected form and spatial arrangement, not only for the designer, but also for the visitors.

HKU AUDITORIUM
PROPOSAL 1The Auditorium is lifted up one floor to allow the bar underneath it to open up to the outside plaza using part of the auditorium as a roof. The structure is a lightweight timber frame structure following the structural grid of the existing foundations. By being raised up a level, the auditorium gives access to a grand view over the city scape. The roof is penetrated with a series of light wells which can all be blacked out and the facade of the auditorium can open it itself up to the outside.

PROPOSAL 2The Auditorium is again lifted up one floor with a bar underneath but it has been rotated 90 degrees and is now freeing up space on the plaza as well as creating an extraordinary view towards the end of the spectators seating.
The primary glulam structure is still following the structural grid of the existing foundation.
The proposal has a stage core at the back of the building, light wells and the acoustic window panels are able to let light and views into the auditorium when opened.

Design DevelopmentAfter major considerations a pre-liminary design was conducted, the concept of a Floating box was taken place to show its significance and independence.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS - HKRetail planning & buildings designThe Oval Partnership Ltd.Director: James Pierce
BRIEFProject Property: MTRCProject Location: ETS StationDesign Period: 2013-14Floor Area: 3150 sqm
CONCEPTThe site lies in a settled urban fabric with culturally rich heritage monuments and vibrant streetscape, complimented by a modern transportation system, adja-cent to significant panoramic landscaped area Signal Hill and flyover pedestrian promenades - and facing the waterfront. The open enhancement and integrationwith the existing axes and landmarks can create a unique and memorable, accessi-ble and inclusive public space, opposite to the common and outdated enclosed box retail development.
One of the critical factors is to efficiently intercept the people flow at the different levels. This must be done by opening up by enhancing the visual connection can play a crucial role to by generating stra-tegic landmarks. Enticing and interactive art features or customized light posts or digital works can be spread at a strategic distance from the site to attract and to guide the curiosity, the eye and lead the way to this new and popular destination.
