Readings for the Day:
Genesis 1:1-2:4a: This is the creation account. The book begins
with the proclamation that God is the creator of all things and thateverything came into being through God. The creation accountedacknowledges that creation is good. The creation story alsoestablishes the role of Sabbath for humanity as a holy time of rest.
John 1:1-5: John begins his gospel with this prologue: a hymn tothe Word through whom all things were created. This Wordcreates a light that shines in the darkness and the darkness cannotovercome the light.
