Journey to Central America… This term in year 5 the children will be exploring the culture and ancient/ modern traditions of Mexico & Central America.

In Literacy we will be learning about the hardship of life in the slum areas of Central and South America through the text 'Trash’ By Andy Mulligan. We will read new novel The Explorer by Katherine Rundell a story of survival set within the jungle. We will design and write our own Jumnaji boardgames and stories. Alongside this we will use themes from the Disney film CoCo, read a tale set in the present day urban jungle -The Boy in the Tower and Holes by Louis Sachar. In Maths we will be working on place value understanding and deepening understanding of mental and written calculations.
