ST PATRICKS DAY 2016 Thursday 17th March the school celebrated St Patricks Day as part of a
P&C fundraiser. A total of $292.45 was raised on the day. The P&C
worked collaboratively with the Mendooran/Merrygoen Memorial Club
to produce many decadent Irish themed cupcakes and cooking the BBQ
for the students and staff during lunch.
It was excellent to see the participation and enthusiasm of all the
students on the day. There were some groovy outfits, with some very
impressive accessories to compliment their attire.
Thank you to Kylie Walden for the endless hours spent in the kitchen
making and decorating the beautiful St Pats themed cupcakes, and to all
the volunteers who helped to cook the BBQ on the day. It is the
generous support of our parents, carers and community members that
enable the school to run such successful events.
The P&C raises funds to help support the school. As the result of many
years of fundraising and hard work over several P&C committees the
P&C have been able to contribute a large sum towards the renovations
of the school toilet block, currently underway.

CRUNCH & SIP PROGRAM As a “Crunch & Sip” school we would like to
extend the program to include all students in
Classes K – 4.
As part of the Crunch & Sip program a time will
be set aside each day, for students to ‘refuel’ on
fruit and vegetables and ‘hydrate’ with water.
It has been found that students who are well
hydrated perform better in the classroom and
show increased concentration and are less likely
to be irritable and disruptive in the classroom.
The aim is to encourage healthy eating habits by
increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables
consumed each day.
Each class will choose a suitable time to
participate in Crunch & Sip that fits into their
timetable.
Please find a list of fruit and vegetables attached
to this newsletter that students are allowed to
bring each day.

YEARS 3/4 NEWS This week is a busy one, with only four days to
squeeze in five days worth of work! This week
homework is due in on Thursday and we will
have our spelling test as well. Remember to hand
in footy tips by Thursday as well.
In 3/4 we will be decorating our ‘Easter Hats’ in
class ready for our parade on Thursday at the
school assembly.
In Maths we will be looking at position
vocabulary, addition strategies and 3D shapes.
We will move on from nouns, adjectives, verbs
and adverbs to compound words.
Good luck to those boys in 3/4 who are
participating in the Russell Richardson Cup this
Wednesday.
Happy Easter !

KINDERGARTEN/YEAR 1 NEWS

All parents, carers, grandparents and friends are
welcome to attend!
The winners of our class win bin and uniform
awards for last week were:

We hope that everyone has a lovely Easter break
with family and friends.

YEARS 1/2 NEWS
We have been completing some testing
throughout the week in order to determine our
changing reading and spelling levels. There has
been some fantastic improvements by students
and we will hopefully continue to see growth as
they continue throughout the rest of the term.
In Maths we have been looking at addition to 20
and have been continuing our focus on
multiplication and division using hands as
counting materials.
In History we looked at some of the first families
to settle in Australia including some of the men,
women and children who were convicts. We
looked at the two youngest convicts in particular
and talked about what their lives must have been
like in comparison with our own.
Last week we began learning some Latin
dancing as part of our sports lessons. We also
began learning some Hip Hop moves and all
students participated with enthusiasm!
I wish everyone a Happy Easter and a lovely
short break ready for Week 10.
