Aims

• Welcome to St Mary’s!• Purpose of slide show to outline the Curriculum that

your child will be following in P2.

to provide an overview of some of the topics and activities that your child will be participating in this year (Learning Plan)

General Information Morning8 – 8.45 Breakfast Club8.45am – Children can come into school playground9.15 – Bell for beginning of classesAfter 9.15 am – marked lateAfternoonFinish at 2:00 - parents come into front yard and wait for teacher to bring child to the door.

General Information• Fruit snack- money will be collected termly each

child will be provided with an envelope with their name on it – this must be returned to the teacher (not the office) - £20 for the month – snack money is used for many purposes within the class

• Dinners – Currently £2.30 per day, (in envelopes on Monday/Friday only)

• Breakfast Club – £1 per morning; Minding club £1 every afternoon from 2-3

• Uniform - full uniform should be worn at all times.

• PE – Wednesday – Fundamentals – PE uniform to be worn into school

• Friday PE with Mrs Reilly children to wear PE uniform into school

• After School Activities – have been provided to children.

• Focusing on an aspect of our work or working on an individual area of improvement

Assessment for Learning

• Concentrates on developing children’s knowledge, attitudes, skills, relationships, behaviour, TSPC, emotional awareness, values and life skills.

• Living Learning Together Box

• Whole school programme• Children should understand the relationship

between their spoken language and the written word.

• Start of the year the focus will be on High Frequency words and then moving onto explore a particular sound each week.

• Spellings given on Monday and will part of the homework and class work to aid retention.

• On Friday these will be tested through a wordsearch and later in the year the children will be assessed through a dictation.

• It is vital that the children work on spellings every night (short/incidental work is very effective)

Linguistic Phonics

• Reading - Guided Reading, Shared Reading, Silent Reading, Modelled Reading

Running Records - Book Banding Scheme Develop comprehension skills and answering in full

sentences.• Library Books – change once a week Library day is

Friday, books to be returned then.• Important to develop a child’s interest in reading

Relaxing Readers – encourage child to read for enjoyment and to regularly change their Relaxing Reader.

• Reading activities in classroom.• Preparation of reading at home• Read a range of materials• Lexia – new Core5 program is curretnly being

implemented this year (details will follow shortly).

Reading

• Variety of forms studied• Poetry• Punctuation – capital letters and full

stops• Handwriting • Various programs on computer –

Word/2Simple Toolkit/Read&Write, etc.

Writing

• Number Counting on and counting back up to and

beyond 20 Counting on in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s Addition and Subtraction within 20 (building

the foundations of place value) • Measures, Handling Data, Shape and Space,

Problem Solving• Lots of Practical Activity• MyMaths programme to continue to

consolidate class work.

Maths

Grow In Love Programme Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter Saints Feast Days Assemblies Christmas Assembly Prayers Beginning and End of Year Mass

Religion

• Aim - to consolidate and reinforce the learning skills and knowledge that has gone on in school.

• Spellings, Reading, Maths, English, other activities related to class work

• 15 - 20 mins (this may or may not include reading)• Important to check and sign homework and

reading record• Homework will be given on a Monday for the whole

week and folders will be collected on Friday• Important – must do reading and spellings every• night.• Lexia Core5 – very important tool to aid reading,

writing and spelling.

through the year your participation is greatly appreciated everything we raise will be either for a worth while charity or go directly to your child’s education.

• Car Parking – don’t park in bus lane or in front of the gates in case of emergency

• School Bus – application forms in office• Free School Meals - application forms in office• Contacts and Mobile phone number – up-to-

date• Child Protection – access online, please ensure

you have returned the reply slip sent out last week

• Please check your child’s regularly for Headlice.
