Aims

• Welcome to St Mary’s!• Purpose of slide show to outline the Curriculum that

your child will be following in P2.

General Information• Fruit snack- money will be collected termly each

child will be provided with an envelope with their name on it – this must be returned to the teacher (not the office) - £20 for the month – snack money is used for many purposes within the class

• Dinners – Currently £2.30 per day, (in envelopes on Monday/Friday only)

• Breakfast Club – £1 per morning; Minding club £1 every afternoon from 2-3

• Uniform - full uniform should be worn at all times.

• PE – Wednesday – Fundamentals – PE uniform to be worn into school

• Friday PE with Mrs Reilly children to wear PE uniform into school

• After School Activities – have been provided to children.

• Whole school programme• Children should understand the relationship

between their spoken language and the written word.

• Start of the year the focus will be on High Frequency words and then moving onto explore a particular sound each week.

• Spellings given on Monday and will part of the homework and class work to aid retention.

• On Friday these will be tested through a wordsearch and later in the year the children will be assessed through a dictation.

• It is vital that the children work on spellings every night (short/incidental work is very effective)

• Reading - Guided Reading, Shared Reading, Silent Reading, Modelled Reading

Running Records - Book Banding Scheme Develop comprehension skills and answering in full

sentences.• Library Books – change once a week Library day is

Friday, books to be returned then.• Important to develop a child’s interest in reading

Relaxing Readers – encourage child to read for enjoyment and to regularly change their Relaxing Reader.

• Reading activities in classroom.• Preparation of reading at home• Read a range of materials• Lexia – new Core5 program is curretnly being

implemented this year (details will follow shortly).

• Spellings, Reading, Maths, English, other activities related to class work

• 15 - 20 mins (this may or may not include reading)• Important to check and sign homework and
