From the Pastors Desk: Epiphany of the Lord
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Once more Happy New Year to all of you, a better year to every person of good will. I am still
impressed by the beauty of this Christmas Season with its warmth and hope that it brings. How Jesus takes
upon himself the challenges of life, as normal people like you and me have to face in our life. Jesus truly lives
among us, and he approaches us in those most humble of our human situations of vulnerability by standing on
our side and taking with us the burdens of our lives. His gentle presence is assuring us of being not alone
when we need his grace and when we look for that grace, he is right by us to support us.
Today's celebration of Epiphany and tomorrow's feast of the Baptism of the Lord ends the Christmas
season. We will be back to the Ordinary Time, but after what we experienced in this Christmas nothing again will be ordinary.
Christ radiates through our lives, through our church, He empowers us in the Sacraments. He is Emmanuel- God is with us. The
question is how much we are with Him ??? Are we for Him or for ourselves??? Who is more important in that relationship - my
ego or his humility???
In today's celebration of Epiphany we see Christ being recognized for who he is by: seekers, strangers, foreigners, wise
men or magi called by the Gospel, being driven out to search for the "newborn king of the Jews " , by their intuitive or learned
knowledge or revelation that they received. Finding Jesus they prostrated themselves honoring God in Him. Than wise men offered
him gifts: gold for the King of heaven and earth, frankincense for the Priest offering the sacrifice to God, and the myrrh for the
Prophet announcing the Good News. Let our hearts and our lives be our gifts to him who loved us first.
Today at the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses Fr. Victor and I will baptize 30 of our CCD students who are ready to turn their lives
to Jesus, and than in May they will receive First Communion. It will be powerful experience of encounter with Christ for them and
for us who will witness it. Jesus comes to befriend us and give us life and it is up to us what we give him in return. This is how our
bond is sealed, and again it is up to us what we make of this friendship. Jesus is not holding back anything, he gives himself totally
to us in love and friendship. Who is your God, your King, your Prophet, your Priest??? To whom you carry your gifts??? Who fills
your heart with amazement and wonder??? To whom do you turn in love and expectation for return of your affection??? In
Bethlehem is the place, where the wisemen found answers to their hearts aching questions and seeing the star they were overjoyed.
Much to take in and to ponder, to adore and to wander, at what we have heard and seen with the eyes of our minds and of
our hearts. " Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage " Let's go to see
for ourselves what has happened in Bethlehem.................
God bless everyone!!!!!
Fr. Stan
.
PS. With the many satisfied winners of the Saint Anne’s Parish Feast raffle during the summer ,
there was a proposition of making a winter St. Valentines Raffle, that would warm up our cold win-
tery atmosphere by adding some excitement to the season. After Christmas and New Years festivities
that would be a moment to cheer up ourselves before going to Lenten Easter preparation. You
may think of giving Valentines Raffle Ticket to someone you care about to make them a Winner of
$ 10,000, $ 2,000, $ 1,000 , or 3 $ 500 prices. Or become a winner yourself by getting your tickets
and providing for the parish and for your family the support that it needs. It is a great way to have
some fun and to continue to be good stewards of our gifts.
TO WIN IT - YOU HAVE TO BE IN IT
Let's have fun!!!
Fr. Stan For tickets ask parish office or see the persons selling the tickets at the door
after Sunday Masses

MEGA RAFFLE II
Our Parish is, once again, undertaking a
Fund-Raising Raffle, much like the Raffle we
held last summer. There will only be 300
tickets sold, each at a price of $100.00 each.
If we sell all 300 tickets, the prizes will be:
1st Prize - $10,000.00 4th Prize - $500.00
2nd Prize - $ 2,000.00 5th Prize - $500.00
3rd Prize - $ 1,000.00 6th Prize - $500.00
The seller of the winning ticket will be awarded $500.00.
The drawing will be held at the Parish Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
The winners need not be present, but tickets for the dance are now on sale.
Should a lesser number of tickets be sold, the prizes will be prorated on a 50/50 basis—50%
of the tickets sales to the winning numbers, and 50% to St. Anne’s Parish. Since there were
many people who were unable to participate in the last MEGA RAFFLE, because all the
tickets had been sold, we would suggest that you purchase your tickets at your
earliest convenience.
OUTREACH NEWS The Outreach was extremely busy from Thanksgiving through the Christmas season. We had a bounti-
ful outpouring of love from our own parishioners and from neighboring parishes. We received an
abundance of food and gifts which we distributed to our clients the week before Christmas. You put
smiles on many faces and we are so grateful for your donations. We gave food and gifts to more than
100 families.
The generosity of the parishioners of St. Anne’s Parish allows us to reach out to people in our Brent-
wood/Bay Shore neighborhood who struggle each day to make ends meet. Our Parish Outreach volun-
teers are trained to do confidential intakes and assessments of the needs of the people who come to us
for assistance.
During December 2016, we were happy to assist 175 families, 44 seniors, 249 adults and 263 children.
We had 6 new families.
When items are available at our Outreach, we can give our clients gently used clothing, towels and
bedding. Our clients are very grateful for these extra items. All donations are truly appreciated by
those who cannot afford to purchase them on their own.
Here are a few items we need this month: cereal, jelly (small jars), toilet paper, tissues, shampoo, con-
ditioner, toothpaste, baby wipes, pet food and laundry detergent. If you have any questions, please
call me 631-273-8113 ext. 229.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a happy and healthy New Year 2017.
Thank you for all you do for our parish.
