What is Squint?

Squint is an eye disorder which is typically seen to be the

misalignment of eye.

But this disorder is not just the misalignment of eyes.

It is a serious disorder which will results in so many eye problems.

Squint in Children :

Infants will develop a normal alignment after 1month. So

misalignment is not taken as a serious problem during this

time.

If child is more than 1 month then squint should be taken in

consideration.

Vision loss may happen if squint is not treated at early age

itself.

As the child grows it will become difficult to regain the lost

vision.

Causes of Squint :

In some persons it may be hereditary.

It may also cause due to infections in eyes.

It may occur due to eye disorders like cataract, glaucoma,

retinal diseases, optic nerve disease and tumors.

Caused due to abnormal nerve impulses to the eye muscles or

due to the weakening of eye muscles.

Squint may also occur due to refractive errors.

Symptoms and Signs of Squint :

Eyes will show misalignment.

Effected persons will close one eye on looking to the

sunlight.

In children, some children may turn or tilt their heads to

see things through their both eyes.

Effected persons experiences double vision in certain

cases.

Non-surgical Treatment for Squint :

Surgical Treatment for Squint :

This surgery is done normally in effected eye or in both

eyes.

It is done on the white portion of the eyeball without

opening it.

Done on the muscles situated outside the eyeball.

The procedure include weakening of stronger muscles

and strengthening of weaker muscles.
