SOCIAL MEDIA & WOMEN’S HEALTH

Speaking of Women’s Health – Merrillville, Indiana May 12, 2011

@kathysipple #NWISWH

July 18, 2008: received call from my sister that our other sister had lost consciousness and had been hospitalized.

We learned she had an AVM (arteriovenous malformation.)

She was in a coma for a month.

I had a personal, urgent need for social media and didn’t know it yet.

I became a caregiver/blogger.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION!

Friendship, family, intimacy

Happiness is being socially connected.

50 YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

“The upshot of 50 years of happiness research is that the quantity and quality of a person's social connections—friendships, relationships with family members, closeness to neighbors, etc.—is so closely related to well-being and personal happiness the two can practically be equated. People with many friendships are less likely to experience sadness, loneliness, low self-esteem, and problems with eating and sleeping.”
