It was proclaimed that the show mustgo on! A few weeks before the eventSanta Anita Racetrack was the focus ofan investigation on why there was anincrease in accidents over the past threemonths related to a number of million-dollar horses on the track. Horse racingdid resume over the same weekend asthe SAWC8 BBQ competition. One ofthe best venues for a BBQ Competitionin Southern California is the SantaAnita Racetrack in Arcadia, CA. Thepromoters, Ben Lobenstein and RicGilbert brought the event back for the8th year with the support of Santa AnitaRacetrack administrators and sponsorsMAK Grills and Snake River Farms. Theonly major difference was that the

teams this year were relocated to theparking area near the public entrance tothe track. This was understandable be-cause of the prior month events trackofficials chose to minimize access to thein-field. The teams were overjoyed thatthis double header (two day) competi-tion was not cancelled.

The $15,000 cash prize package in addi-tion to a Snake River Farms BrisketChallenge with an additional $500 toeach days first place brisket winner anda Gateway Drum Smoker to the overallcumulative score brisket winnerprompted many teams to sign up in ad-dition to the fantastic venue. This eventwould be limited to no more than eighty
