After a tense season,Malin gained

promotion to DivisionOne of the All-County

League last October. Agruelling pre-seasonregime under new manager Martin

Lafferty was undertakenand we now speak withMalin defender, and FEI

employee DamienHarkin, who tells us

about the hopes for theseason.

Q: What does it meanto Malin to play in thetop division in thecounty?

Definitely means a lot tothe club. To be one of thetop nine teams in thecounty and playingagainst some the bestplayers in the county, ifnot country, can only helpthe team. We were here afew years ago but withthe young team we nowhave we don't fear anyone and its showing witha win and a draw in ourfirst two games.Inishowen is usuallyregarded as having goodsoccer teams so to haveMalin playing at the highest level shows howmuch hard work the clubis doing at the minute.

Q: What other FEI

employees are involvedwith the club?

Ruairi Kelly in Instalmentsis one of the goalkeepersat the club. PaulMcDermott goes to training the odd time(when he’s not complaining about hissore back!!). LindaMcColgan plays for ourLadies side. Then youhave got Mairead Havlinand Eilish McColgan whoare the WAGS of theclub!!

Q: Which is worse, aMonday morning in theLloyds TSB Pod or atough training session on Lagg Beach?

As tough as the beachtraining sessions are, listening to RonanKearney at 8am on aMonday morning is fartougher! So I'd pick Laggany day!! Only jokingKearney!!

Q: Whilst the league isa huge focus for theclub, explain"Championship Mode"and what it means tothe players and management?

The Championship is theone everyone wants towin. While we want tostay in the top division thetop teams train to win theChampionship. The gamesare far more intense andthe hits are far harder. Wehave Glenfin in first roundthis year so come downand support us!!
