Where do goals come from?
Examples of Goals By next June, I will own a car of my
own. At the end of the semester, I will
have earned a B in algebra. On Friday, I will get a C or better
on my history test. By next month, I will run five miles
once a week.
More Examples By November 8, I will have lost 10
pounds. By Friday, I will have complimented
my brother for something. I will wash my clothes on Saturday. In June 2016, I will graduate from
high school.
More Examples In 2016, I will enter a technical training
program at CSN to become an auto mechanic.
On Thursday, I will turn in the essay due in English.
Before I am 45 years old, I will own a Ferrari.
I will buy a new iPod by December 1. By December 15, I will buy my dad the

What is an effective goal? Specific: You understand what it is. Measurable: You can tell when you
have achieved it. Action Plan: You have a plan to
achieve it. Realistic: It is realistic for you to
achieve it. Time-bound: You have a deadline.
SMART Goals Specific (described clearly and
exactly) Measurable (you can judge when it
is done) Action Plan (you have a step by step
plan) Realistic (it is reasonable that you
could do this) Time-bound (has a deadline)
Time Frames for Goals
Short-Term Goals (Less than 6 months)
Intermediate Term Goals (6 months to a year)
Long-Term Goals (A year or more)
Examples of Short-term Goals At the end of the semester, I will have earned a

Realistic-I need more information to decide. I will have to make several short-term goals first before I can decide if this one is realistic.
