What areas do we need to work on?Problems• Size

– Population size – Land size to accommodate more people

• The more people, the more attractive it is to investors and the more domestic markets can grow.

• Land reclamation

• Build upwards or even underground

• Change– We need to remake ourselves from time to time.

• Yet, home is about familiarity, stability and comfort. We do not want to erode the sense of belonging and pride in our shared heritage.

• Resolving the tensions…– National Population and Talent Division (NPTD)

• Formulate, coordinate and review whole of Government policies related to population and talent.

• Focus on achieving a sustainable population profile.

Are we heading in the right direction?

Yet, if we do not keep up with globalisation, we might not ‘survive’.

Hence, we need to ‘be open’.

(refer to the late Mr S. Rajaratnam’s quotation)

What about the lessons

learnt from other countries?

What are the considerations

we have to make?

• Even a country of abundant resources like the US needs talent, let alone Singapore.
