The International Agri-Center® was proud to host the 5th annual Harvest Festival last month. Familes from throughout the local community and surrounding
towns turned out for a day of fun, games, shopping, food and live music. A total of 34 boutique shopping vendors lined the pavement in front of the Heritage Complex, and 12 food concessionaires filled the air with the smells of BBQ and cobbler.
Guests were welcomed into the
festival by the pumpkin patch, sponsored by Saputo, and were given free mini pumpkins as a thank you to the local community. Mission Oak High School students hosted the Haunted House this year, and
promised spooky thrills to their excited guests.
There was never a dull moment, and always something to do for the kids. Popular attractions included the petting zoo, courtesy of COS, the Bounce Zone, the Hay Climbing Mountain, and the AgVentures!® Learning Center’s Harvest Festival display and activities. The Arbor area was also home to the 12 carnival hosts, which provided plenty of entertainment for the kids while their parents enjoyed good food and live music by Johnny Popper and the Implements.
We had a great visit to Sunbelt Ag Expo in Georgia! We attended the Farmer of the Year awards ceremony, that celebrated farmers in 10 states, and had a special appearance of Vice President, Mike Pence. Sunbelt Ag Expo had a tough year because of Hurricane Michael, though on average the show boasts 1,200 exhibitors and 80,000 attendees at the 1.6 million sq. ft. of exhibit space, over three days. We learned a lot from another wonderful ag expo and are thankful for their generosity and hospitality to our team!

The 9th annual Progressive Ag Safety Day was hosted by AgVentures!® on Tuesday, October 23rd. This year, IAC hosted 287 third grade students from Tulare rural schools who spent the day learning about safety on and off the farm. Students had an opportunity to learn from various presenters the importance of safety by visiting the presentations in a 15 minute rotation. Presenters from Tulare Fire Department, Tulare Police Department, Garton Tractor, Southern Cal Edison, The Wonderful Company, California Operation Lifesaver and Wilbur-Ellis, all provided educational presentations for the students to learn how to stay safe.
We are continuing with AgVentures!® Learning Center school tours through the fall and spring. If interested in becoming a school tour guide, please contact Kerissa Chapman at kerissa@farmshow.org.
