A conditional sentence has two clauses
If clause Main clause
States the hypothesis
States the result
If I won the lottery, I would buy a house.
In the if clause the verb is in
past although it refers to the present or
future.
Use would, might or could
in the main clause.
If I were you, I would study more.
“WERE is used with every pronoun
including she, he and it”
PUNCTUATION
If I bought a car, I wouldn’t take the bus anymore.
I wouldn’t take the bus anymore if I bought a car.
Use a comma when the if
clause is at the beginning not
when it is at the end!
When making questions….
Would you take care of my dog if I cleaned your house?
The question form is in the main clause!
