Fire Safety

• If a fire erupts, notifyyour teacher at once

• Never dispense or useflammable materialsnear a flame

• Know the location ofthe fire extinguisher,fire blanket, exits andalarm

Eye Protection• Please wear your

goggles• Know the location of

the eye wash stationand how to use it

• Wear your Goggles• Consult with your

instructor about youruse of contact lenses

• WEAR YOURGOGGLES!!!!

Chemical Safety

• Always report spills toyour teacher

• Clean up spills rightaway

• Immediately clean upspills on skin orclothing with soap andwater

• Neutralize acid withsodium bicarbonate

• Neutralize bases withacetic acid (vinegar)

• Never take chemicalsout of the lab

Personal Safety Precautions• Report ALL injuries

to your teacher rightaway, no matter howtrivial

• Confine long hair andloose clothing

• Wear shoes that coveryour feet

• Never take labequipment out of thelab

Personal Safety Precautions• Wash your hands with

soap and water whenlab is over

• Never engage inhorseplay or practicaljokes in the laboratory

• Food, gum, candy anddrinks are not allowedin the laboratory

• Never taste anythingin lab unlessspecifically instructedto do so by yourteacher

• If you develop aheadache or start tofeel sick, tell yourteacher at once

• Know the location ofthe first aid kit

• Never point the openend of a test tube thatis being heatedtowards anotherperson

• WAIT!! Hot glasslooks the same as coolglass

• Always read andfollow directions

• Avoid inhalingchemical fumes

• Avoid filling pipets byusing your mouth

• Consider ALLchemicals dangerousunless they are knownto be otherwise

• Unauthorizedexperiments areprohibited

• Do not use the sink todiscard matches, filterpaper or insolublesolids. Use the wastejars and buckets thatare provided

• Do not returnchemicals to theiroriginal containersunless you arespecifically instructedto do so

• Always add acid towater (AA)

• Before you touch anelectrical outlet, plugor switch your handsmust be dry

• If a piece ofequipment is notworking properly,stop, turn it off, andtell your teacher

Laboratory Environment

• All laboratory floorsand aisles should bekept clear ofequipment, chemicalsand textbooks

• Cleaning up thelaboratory is theresponsibility of allstudents

1. Wear proper eye protection at all timesduring laboratory activity. Consult withyour instructor about your use of contactlenses. Know the location of eye washequipment.

2. Confine or securely tie hair that reaches toshoulders. Remember hair is veryflammable!

3. Do NOT eat, drink or chew gum in thelab. Dangerous chemicals may get inyour mouth! Never taste anything in thelab unless specifically instructed to do soby your teacher. No chemicals are ever tobe taken from the lab.

4. Do only the experiments assigned and inthe manner prescribed. Unauthorizedexperiments are prohibited.

6. Footwear must completely cover the foot.7. Avoid inhaling chemical fumes; avoid

10. Notify instructor immediately of anyspills on your clothing.
