8th grade mathematics: Pre-Algebra

Vision Statement In this classroom, we will make mistakes and learn from them. We will become independent

thinkers and responsible individuals. We will respect our teachers and our peers as they are

collaborators in our learning experience. We will stay curious and never stop trying to learn.

ExpectationsThe objective of this course is mastery of the fundamentals of the pre-algebra curriculum with significant reinforcement in foundational skills. This course stresses problem solving and thinking skills within the context of pre-algebra. Students will be expected to meet the standards outlined in the NJ SLS.Students need to take an active part in their learning.

They are expected to put forth their best effort. When

and if there is confusion/frustration, students are to exhaust all resources. For example, look back at the notes from that day, refer to the textbook or the online textbook resources, watch an online video or take

advantage of working with a classmate. If the confusion continues, make it a purpose to come for extra help.Required

Classroom Behavior Discipline Plan Ms. Stibler

    Classroom Rules and Expectations

1. Be prepared for class when the bell stops ringing.  This means to have the materials needed for class, stop talking, and be ready to begin the day’s work.  Materials you will need to bring to class include: binder, calculator, pencil, expo markers and paper for assignments.

2. Remain in your seat during class unless instructed otherwise by the teacher. Students are dismissed by the teacher, not the bell: be courteous and attentive until the teacher dismisses you.

3. No talking during class except when called upon by the teacher.

4. Refrain from disturbing the class by disorderly conduct such as shouting out in class and talking with others in class.

5. Respect others’ person and property.

6. Follow any given instructions when they are given.

7. No cell phone use unless instructed otherwise by the teacher.

8. No gum chewing in the classroom.

Negative Consequences When you choose not to follow these rules, to talk excessively at inappropriate times, one or more of the following will happen:

1. Initial warning.  Warning will be verbal. 1. Name will be placed on board 2. Checkmarks will be placed next to your name

2. Final warning - 3 checkmarks on board 1. Email sent home detailing unacceptable behavior

3. Phone call home.

4. Formal school discipline process

Positive Consequences The above guidelines are minimum requirements to maintain a learning atmosphere in this classroom.  The following will happen when the above guidelines are met and exceeded: 1. Increased time to go over and explain concepts.

2. More material will be covered.

3. We will take advantage of fun and unique learning experiences.
