Riverside Mission Moose Jaw,

Who Find themselves in Less Fortunate Situations

Mission Statement: The goal of the Riverside Mission is to

help individuals to succeed in developing an addiction-free life style permitting them to maintain gainful employment, maintain their own home and pursue interests that would enhance their lives.

Mission Control This is where it all happens.

The Dining Room

The dining room is in the process of being painted. It was originally apale blue. Kind of depressing. The yellow brightens the place up a lot.

The Kitchen

Presently the Mission has an individual who cooks regularly on a volunteer basis. In the future the Mission hopes to hire this individual as a full time employee.

Riverside Mission provides 5 community meals per week in which anyone is welcome. Lunch meals are served on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Supper

meals are on Mondays and Wednesdays. Individuals who are staying in the emergency shelter are provided with breakfast and supper on a daily basis.

Emergency Shelter The Mission provides Emergency Shelter for men

only. There are 8 beds available. Individuals using the shelter are provided with breakfast and supper on a daily basis. The shelter is vacated from 9:30 am until 5:00 pm unless outside temperatures are below 15˚C. The length of stay in the Emergency Shelter is 2 weeks. After this time an individual’s situation is re-evaluated and a decision is made with regards to extending that individual’s length of stay. Shelter guests are responsible for lodging costs which are $10.00 per night. Guests may pay Riverside Mission directly or seek assistance through Social Services.

Coin-Op Laundry and TV Room

The Library

According to the Director of the Mission, the two things most donated to Riverside Mission are TVs and Bibles. Ironically, they can use only so many of either of these items. What the Mission benefits the most from is people’s donation of time and food.

With food, shelter and safety comes certain responsibilities…

…And Rules.

And yes… there are security cameras.

Transitional HousingThe Riverside Mission has a Transitional Housing program. The Transitional Housing provides the environment, respect and support necessary for an individual to move towards independence and wholeness. The Mission is founded upon the value and respect of all people, no matter where they are in life or with what issues they may be struggling.

The Mission currently has 7 suites for this program. Each suite has one bedroom, a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom. The suites come fully furnished. Rent for Transitional Housing is $500 per month. Tenants are expected to live under certain rules and conditions.

I would like to thank the Director of Riverside Mission, Scott Elger, for his kindness and cooperation. He opened up the doors of the Riverside Mission to help me better understand what it is that the Mission has to offer.
