ABSTRACT

RESEARCH PLAN D

The following research project aims to develop an alternative dynamic interface to track and visualize the Copenhagen Airport customers and passengers, to be proposed for integration within the Spopos tracking system, already established and collecting data. The interface will be conceptualized using the principles and specifications of Ecological Interface Design and will allow an interoperable and multi-platform access to indoor live-tracking, location-aware visualizations.

PROJECT PURPOSE

RESEARCH PLAN D

3

To envision a location-aware representation of the Copenhagen Airport passengers in a real-time alternative monitoring interface, so that users can avoid queue lines, get to their flights on time and consume targeted information about shopping and refreshment opportunities.

PROJECT GOALS

RESEARCH PLAN D

3

To establish a theoretical framework through a fundamental bibliographic revision on Information Visualization and Ecological Interface Design.1

PROJECT GOALS

RESEARCH PLAN D

3

To identify and systematize potential actions, tasks, goals and navigation patterns to be addressed by the dynamic interface, through exhaustive tacit knowledge surveys.2

PROJECT GOALS

RESEARCH PLAN D

3

To spot usability issues, technical problems and both paradigmatic and pragmatic relevant topics on the current default interface, to be taken as resolvable subjects on the design process of the alternative interface.

3

PROJECT GOALS

RESEARCH PLAN D

3

To deploy a final functional prototype in form of a web-based and interoperable visualization interface and raise awareness among location-aware application analysis.4

METHODOLOGY

The applied research methodology is the exploratory method. It properly begins with the theoretical framework as a way of collecting relevant information out of a bibliographical research on the subjects of Information Visualization (Part I) and Ecological Interface Design (Part II) and is followed by two data collection techniques.

In the end of this research project it is expected to have a functional prototype as an alternative UI layer for the Spopos tracking-system. This prototype will fix usability and display issues of the current interface and will provide users with an alternative, Information Visualization powered and situation-awareness solution, based on targeted research.
