• sEMG for SCREENING and EVALUATION of swallowing function
o Vaiman et al. established normative sEMG data for adults and children as well as a standardized protocol for screening – published between 2004 and 2009.
o Crary et al. : the sEMG graphic record is a reliable assessment tool for identifying normal versus abnormal swallowing
• The sEMG signal is strongly correlated with the major biomechanical events of swallowing
• Dysphagic patients compared to healthy controls show a different graphic record
• USE OF sEMG BIOFEEDBACK IN DYSPHAGIA TREATMENT
o Crary tutorial on the use of sEMG biofeedback as an adjunct in swallowing therapy
o Crary retrospective study showed a dysphagia therapy program supplemented with sEMG biofeedback improved functional swallowing status in the majority of stroke and head/neck cancer patients who had not improved with previous standard therapy programs.

iDJO updated
Update on EMPI
ELECTRODES
• All Iomed electrodes (Iogel, TransQ, OptimA, Companion 80) will continue to be available to all markets without interruption.
• Dupel BLUE electrodes can be rebranded to Chatt electrodes.
– It will take 8 – 12 weeks for new packaging material once the
rebranding artwork is approved.
• 199332-001, Small (1.5 mL), 12/box
• 199334-001, Butterfly (2.0 mL), 12/box
• 199335-001, Medium Standard (2.5 mL), 12/box
• 199336-001, Large (4.0 mL), 12/box
–
• Direct TENS & Empi Phoenix can continue to be sold in international (without a rush to rebrand as we may use EMPI in int’l apparently) but we will be working change legal manufacturing to DJO LLC and we would brand them to CEFAR anyway .
Direct TENS & EMPI Phoenix
• the StimCare Electrode line will be discontinued under the EMPI brand
• Int’l could continue if rebranded
• Question: can we switch users to Dura-Stick, DJO, or Compex electrodes
• No more shipments out of Clear Lake after 18 December.
• CANADA only - StimCare electrode packages in a zip-lock bag with extra labeling and instructions that include both French and English in the proper font sizes.
– We may be able to provide these going forward, but they will also have to be
rebranded, so it would make sense to just change the packaging of Chatt or Compex electrodes to have the correct languages and fonts rather than trying to re-do the StimCares.
