wish I had done things differently,” or
“I should have made more time to visit a good

regrets for not making time to visit Jesus in

He is a good listener.

SUNDAY COLLECTION
January 6, 2019
Many thanks!! What a way to start the year!!
Today’s Feast of the Baptism of the Lord wraps up
our Christmas celebration. On Monday, the liturgical
color will change from white to green (the color of the new
life we have in Christ). I hope that your holidays were
holy, happy, and healthy. This week we will put away the many
signs and symbols of the Christmas season, but may the spirit of
those holydays last well into the New Year 2019. The generosity,
hard work, and dedication of so many during the last several weeks
deserve some formal thanks, so here’s a Big Tip of the St Charles
Appreciation Hat to:
As always, St Charles Music Ministry, under the direction of
Thomas Holzheimer (now in his twenty-eighth year with us)
provided wonderful music. Thank you for bringing together the
various choirs, instrumentalists, soloists, handbells, and sounds of
the season. Mara, Dave, Carey, and Rose, worked their magic as
well.
Thank you to our many liturgical ministers who volunteered so
willingly for special schedules and dealt with large crowds: ushers,
Extraordinary Ministers, lectors, and servers. Thank you, Maria,
for keeping that army of volunteers on track.
Thank you to the men and women who gave our church a
thorough cleaning on Monday, December 17. I could smell that
Murphy’s Oil Soap for days!
Thank you to our Special Education Program for their
wonderful Christmas Pageant on the Wednesday before. Thank
you to Mrs Hamer, Mrs Zickes and Sister Patrick Marie and to
St Charles First Graders for their beautiful telling of the
Christmas Story at the 6:00pm Vigil Mass.
Thanks to our sacristans, Nancy and Maxine, for coordinating
all the items needed for worship and for the decorating skills of
Vinnie and Patty. The church looked beautiful and aided our
prayers!
Thank you to all who faithfully participate in our Gift Card
Program. Special thanks to those who responded to my appeal to
begin using the program. Please, everybody, buy your weekly “gas
and groceries” with our Gift Cards. All proceeds benefit kids’
education.
Thank you to the many parishioners who shared those
wonderful things from your kitchens. Parma cooks and bakers are
the absolute best!
To our Parish Secretaries and Receptionists who kept things
running smoothly: Denise, Nancy, Maria, Donna, Charlotte,
Melissa, Gail, Virginia, and Eileen.
To our Maintenance Crew, headed by Scott Stakolich (now in
his thirty-seventh year with us) ably assisted by Tim, and holiday
season helpers RJ, Dan, Dave, and Jacob; they did all the heavy
lifting and kept St Charles looking great.
The priests and Sisters join me in thanking all those who
remembered us with your kind cards, notes, and gifts.
Thank you to all for the outstanding Christmas collection.
Thank you, as well, to those who were so very generous during our
October Canned Food Drive, the 2018 Advent Giving Tree, and
for the great response to the Sisters’ Retirement Fund and the
December Fifth Sunday St Vincent de Paul collection.
And so to all during this New Year 2019, as Bing used to sing
“May your days be merry and bright!”
Did you get your tickets for next Saturday’s Booster Club
“Night at the Races?” Check the article in this bulletin and get the
Gang together for a fun night out!

JUST SHOP—
AND HELP SAINT CHARLES SCHOOL!
There are 4 ways to help our school
with no cost to you.
1. Cut and send in the BoxTops for Education. Did you know
that each of those is worth 10 cents? Throw them away and
you are throwing away money!
2. Cut and send in Tyson labels (again, don’t throw those
out—we can use them!)
3. Shop at ACME? Send in your receipt and we will do the
rest. We have gotten about $600 each year for the past few
years just by sending in receipts.
4. Register your Giant Eagle Advantage Card to benefit
Saint Charles: Go to www.GiantEagle.com/AFTS and
create an account. Then choose school programs and enter
our school ID of 2817. Add our school! It takes about 4
minutes to both register and add Saint Charles School.
2018 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS Contribution statements for 2018 will be emailed this week
to all email addresses that we have on file. If you do not
have an email address and would like a copy of your
contribution statement, please fill out the form below and
return it to the Parish Office.
