•Underlining is a way to identify titles of books, plays, and magazines.

Writing Connection:Quotation marks and underlining

provide special information to readers. Quotation marks signal when someone is speaking. Underlining signals some type of published writing.

Examples:

Corduroy said, “I wish someone would buy me.”

The title of the book is Corduroy’s New Coat.

My favorite chapter is called “At the Store.”
