• National Cyber Security Awareness Month — Annually in October

• STOP.THINK.CONNECT. — Campaign for cyber security public awareness and education— In partnership with Anti-Phishing Working Group

• Data Privacy Day— An international awareness effort to encourage the safe-guarding of

personal data and empowering consumers to protect their data• National Cybersecurity Education Council

— A public-private partnership to formalize education of digital citizens and cybersecurity professionals

NCSA’s Key Initiatives – In Summary

National Cyber Security Awareness Month • Occurs every October (since 2003) • In partnership with U.S. Department of Homeland Security

(DHS)• Begins with a formal kickoff event, typically first day of

October• Followed by three themed weeks of events

— Business (SMBs)— Law Enforcement— Education (K-12)

• Awareness efforts by industry; schools, colleges & universities; small businesses, NGOs, others

STOP.THINK.CONNECT.

• Developed by 25 companies & seven U.S. federal agencies

• Based on extensive consumer research • Harmonizes safety and security messaging across

all platforms; includes tips and advice• Free to adopt (requires a license)• Exposes computer-users to repetition of

messaging, thereby increasing adoption

• Data Protection Day began in Europe in 2007• Data Privacy Day extended to U.S. & Canada in January 2008• Supported by industry• Highlighted by nation-wide events in schools, colleges &

universities, among businesses, and NGOs
