5. Grade 12 Results Review – PMDP Schools

• The original pilot schools which undertook the PMDP in 2009 have improved by an average of 17.9%

to date compared with improvement of 10.5% in KZN and 7.7% nationally over the same period

• The first post-pilot cohort of schools which undertook the PMDP in 2010 has improved on average by

12.4% in the last 2 years against the KZN average of 4.4% over this period

• The second cohort in 2011 achieved an average 5.9% improvement against an average decline in KZN

of - 2.6%

• The average annual PMDP schools improvement over and above the KZN average for the period

2009-11 is 7.4%

Whilst the schooling system is quite complex, statistical research undertaken for the PMDP has confirmed

that there are certain key management practices which correlate directly with improved results and

these are currently being implemented through the PMDP with its participants.
