Introduction
Apex Systems was engineered with the installation and installers in mind. Gone are the days of excessive tools and
parts. The Apex system uses only three tools and has only 5 parts. Once you’re done with a tool you’re done with
that tool for the rest of the installation. Engineered for speed of install, better looks and lower costs. You now get
true freedom of design and layout with up to 13” of vertical adjustment, 6” of horizontal and an unprecedented 3
½” of adjustable height. This system redefines layout flexibility. Using the frame of the panel as support, Apex
eliminates the need for costly rails and mid clamps. Now you get a system that can be used with every panel on the
market no matter thickness of frame or coating. With integrated grounding with every piece we have reached a
new level of design capabilities. Other systems offer 4 to 8 points of grounding equaling 8” per panel of ground.
Now you get 8 points of grounding and 24” of ground contact per panel. This means you no longer have to worry if
the one ground spot is grounded properly.
The following installation manual and guidelines should be used in tandem with your companies training platforms
and procedures. For any questions or suggestions please contact the Predator Solar Mounts customer support
team.

Array layout overview
The above example shows a simple array configuration. Marked are the panel
support and mounts. The highlighted areas show two scenarios where electrical
current is grounding to the panel frames. The yellow lines and arrows show the
GEC path as going through panel and base clamps. Both of which carry the
UL 2703 listing.
The mounts are spaced at 6’ or 72” for landscape and 48” for portrait and offset
every other row so all the mounts do not fall on the same rafters.
GEC is continued from the array to the ground wire then the main panel through an
electrical box or junction box. #6 ground is attached to the nearest clamp using a
ground lug with the screw torqued to 5 in/lbs onto the #6 copper wire. For more
information on grounding see section on ground lug and specs.
The APEX system installation begins at the downhill edge of the roof and progresses uphill. Installation is sequential and requires 1 tool. Installation steps:
1. Layout Array on rooftop.
2. Install Attachmentmounts to rooftop.
3. Install the sola dex box.
4. Install Clamp Assemblies on downhill row.
5. Install the Skirts.
6. Install Couplings toSkirts.
7. Install Modules
8. Install Clamps and Couplings on uphill side of Modules. Tighten clamps when installing the next row of panels
9. Repeat this process foreach subsequent row.
10. Level array where needed. Do not step on glass part of panels

This rafter and mount configuration is possible only in areas without snow pack loads .
Locate each rafter using a hammer following your chalk line. Mark and drill into each
rafter following the spacing the guidelines for the APEX system. Which are 48” on center for
areas with snow pack loads and 72” on center for all other areas. Cantilevers are not to
exceed 20” no matter the orientation of the panel. Pilot holes should be 2” up from the
bottom of the shingles.

horizontally across
that row of panels.
Mounting layout and installation.
Mount and flashing layout and installation is simple and fast.
1st decide where you want the bottom edge of the first row of panels. Mark the outside edges of the array using either a marking crayon or chalk.
2nd measure up from the mark symbolizing the bottom edge of the first row of panels. This measurement is equal to the width or length of your panel frame. Here are some standard dimensions.
39” x 66” 39” for landscape 66” for portrait 40” x 65 ¾” 40” landscape 65 ¾” portrait 41” x 65 ¾” 41” landscape 65 ¾” portrait 42” x 62” 42” landscape 62” portrait
The distance between the first and second row of mounts is equal to the panel width or length putting the flashing on the next full shingle up.
3rd for all following measurements for rows of panels take the width or length of the panel and add 1”. 39” becomes 40”, 42” becomes 43”. This takes into account the 1” gap created by the clamps.
From the first row to the 3rd row the distance is equal to the panel width (40”) times the number of rows (2) + 1” for each row minus the first therefore 2-1=1”. (40”*2)+(2-1)=81”. Then mark and drill on thenext full row of shingles if the top of the panel exceeds 1/3 of the shingle of width of 6”. If this wereportrait the equation would be (65 ¾” *2)+(2-1)= 132.5” up from the bottom edge of the first panel tothe top edge of the second row of panels.
This measuring should be repeated for each row of panels. Always mark out the location of the panels before deciding where the mounts should be placed. Knowing the top of each row of panels will assist in knowing where to place the flashings and mounts. Remember if the top of the panel exceeds 1/3 of the shingle height move the flashings up one row of shingles. This will allow you to slide the base to the needed location and tighten the fastening nuts using your impact.

Panel Preparations Panel preparation will depend on what panel you are installing and if you will be using a
micro-inverter, optimizer or other additional equipment with the panel.
While laying panels use the channels on the bottom of the clamps to lift and hide the
wires and use any additional wire clips necessary to keep the wires off the roof. Panels can be
oriented either as landscape or Portrait on the roof or as a combination of both. All panels
should be installed over fire resistant roof materials. Installation configuration should follow the
Fire Class Rating in accordance with Fire Performance, Section 15. Maximum of 350 modules,
40” x 66” 72 or 60 cell modules are approved for use.
Approved panels are listed below.
All panels
listed as type
2 are
approved
with this
system.
Optimizers and micro inverters are to be mounted to the approved panels using that
systems manufacturers recommended mounting bracket. Predator solar mounts does not make
electrical mounting brackets at this juncture.
For enphase see the enphase installation manual for the needed bracket.
Solar edge sees their installation manual for the needed bracket.
Use only manufacturer approved equipment so as not to void any warranties.
Warning: All wiring must be
done in compliance with NEC and
AHJ requirements.
It is advisable to prepare Modules on the ground before moving them to the rooftop. This can be done as penetrations are installed.
1. Finalize the junction box location and string diagram as soon as the arraydesign is marked on the roof and confirmed.
2. Once the APEX bases are installed locate the spot for the soladex box orelectrical junction box.
3. Prepare modules on the ground for easywiring on the roof. And to reduce the chances of strains, sprains or falls.
4. System fire class rating: see installation instructions forinstallation requirements toachieve a specified system fire class rating with this product. Label to be added to each box.

*the clamp can only be lowered to 3” above the roof per fire code and NEC code.
Violation of this code can lead to failed inspections at the installers responsibility.
Use of an approved ground lug from the list of manufacturers provided. These are ul tested and approved system grounding methods and products. Use the 8-32 machine screw and matching hole on the ground lug to attach the ground lug to any clamp. Each clamp comes with 8-32 threads on the bottom clamp. Once the machine screw is inserted into the hole on the ground lug mate the screw with the threads on the desired clamp closest to the electrical junction box.
It is suggested that the ground lug used with the APEX system be aluminum or plated copper.

*The installers are responsible for the wire management of the system and its compliance with NEC
and territorial codes.
Use the predrilled holes to install the base anchors. Remove the thin film
from the back of the flashing to reveal the tar sealant. Press the lag through the
middle hole on the flashing until it penetrates the sealant.
Lag the anchors in t ill they no longer can be turned or 50 lbs of torque.
Rep eat the proc ess for each anchor on each row and each flashing.
Spacing between flashings and/or mounts is to be 48” to a maximum of
72 ” with a cantilever, no greater than 20”.
It is approved that the installers add an additional seal to the
flashing. Recommendati ons for sealants are: henrys, m1, geocel or liquid nails. Any sealant
rated for water, heat and exterior use. Additional sealant is advised in areas with heavy
rain or snow. Moderate climates have no need for additional sealant.
*failure to use approved sealant or flashing for extra or excessive holes may lead to roof leaks and
water damage to the house. Predator Solar Mounts will no t cover cost associated with skipping steps or using
inadequate sealants for the application.
Base Anchor installation
Following the marks and
predrilled holes that were made
Before, insert the lag and washer
into the larger middle hole of the
base anchor/ flashing.
Put a 1/4” bead of sealant around
the hole on the underside of the
base anchor no larger than a 2 ½”
diameter.
Put the tip of the lag into the hole
and using an impact or drill
tighten the lag and anchor down
until the anchor can no longer be
turned by hand or reaches 60+ lbs
of torque.
Repeat for all other base anchors.
Caution: failure to follow the
guidelines for sealing can lead to
roof leakage. Failure to properly
seal and flash extra holes will lead
to roof leaks. Predator Solar
Mounts will not guarantee nor
cover cost of damages for
improperly sealed anchors or
flashings .
Panel flashings and base locations.

Base preparation and attachment.
The base attaches directly to the flashing by
use of the two threaded studs that
correspond with the through slots on either
side of base piece itself.
For convenience of install, the base slides north and south
To allow greater adjustability and customization. With 12” of
adjustment, the flashing should be squared off with the row of
Shingles upon which it is fastened, you can then slide the base
to the best location for panel attachment. The first row of
bases and clamps it is suggested that the installer measure for
the downhill location of the two outside bases and clamps.
Once these two bases are set, run a string line between them
and set that row of bases. Doing this will ensure that the
panels are even and level. Once the first row is down clip the
skirt onto the clamps.
Base attachment
Each base comes with 2 slots. 1 on either
side for the mounting bolts and 1 stud in
the middle for the threaded stud for
clamp attachment.
Attach the base to the flashing by sliding
the base onto threaded studs. Adjust to
the desired location and tighten the 5/16
nuts. These should be tightened down to
50 lbs torque each.
You are now ready to put the base clamp
onto the threaded rod. Insert the free
end into the center hole on the bottom
of the bottom clamp piece. You can
adjust the height of the clamp by
inserting a ½” socket into the center hole
located in the top of the base clamp. If
you turn the nut clockwise the clamp
height will be lowered. If you desire to
raise the height of the clamp turn the nut
counter clockwise.
System Fire Class rating: see installation
instructions for panel preparation for
installation requirements to achieve a
specified system fire class rating with this
product.
Caution:
Failure to use the jam nut or lock nut on
the t bolt may lead to parts being loose
and damage. This failure and subsequent
damages are the sole responsibility of the
installation company and installer and
not Predator Solar Mounts.

Base clamp
The base clamps use a custom nut for height adjustment. To
adjust the height of the panels insert the ½” socket into the
3/4” through hole in the top of the clamp. Put the socket
over the nut and turn to raise and lower the panel to the
desired height. Each clamp on the system comes with a
#8/32 thread hole for the ground lug. You may place the lug
under the clamp if the clamp is in use. If not, you may attach
the lug from the top.
Back out the lock screw to insert the ground wire. The lug will
accommodate #12 to #4 wire sizes. Once the ground wire is
inserted, tighten the screw down on the wire to 35 in/lbs. Be
sure to cut the wire at a length granting adequate material in
the junction box. See example for approved ground lug.
Base clamp
The base clamp has two pieces. The top
of the clamp with through holes and the
bottom of the clamp with the threads
and a nut.
Functionality:
This piece is multifunctioning. The teeth
on the inside top are the grounding
teeth. These cut into the panel frame for
an unbroken continuous bond.
The bottom clamp contains a wire
management channel on the bottom.
This channel is designed for wire sizes
between 3/16 and 3/8.
All parts come engraved with
manufacturer 9-digit code identifying
locations, date and material.
All Top clamps contain a ½ x ½ ul and fire
rating laser marked on the top outside.
This is the indicator of the UL pass for all
territories.
The free spinning 10 mm washer nut
allows for the piece to be raised and
lowered on the t bolt to which it
attaches. This allows the bolt to stay in a
fix position and location while the panel
is levelled with those around it.

The skirt is attached to the first row of clamps and any area
that there is not a panel directly below another panel or an
empty area in the array. This is not required for installation
stability or to install panels but it does make it easier.
The skirt has a clip on the back side that corresponds with the
front of the Clamps. Match the skirt up with the edge of the
array and push the skirt onto the clamps. Once on the skirt
will be very hard to get off but can slide from side to side or
left to right. This will assist in laying the first row of panels.
Array skirt
The skirt is for an aesthetically pleasing
install. This piece has multiple sub
functions.
1 The skirt is used to help align the
1st row of panels and for ease of install.
2 It assists in the cooling of the
solar panels by increasing air flow over
the panel faces.
3 In the case of a fire along the
edges of the house the skirt leads the
flames over the panels instead of under
them.
This piece is the only piece to be made
out a composite uv protected composite.
all other pieces are manufactured out of
6061 structural AL.
Install this piece on the first row of
mounts or any above row not covered by
the skirting on the first mounts.
CAUTION: do not use the skirt or any
other mounting bracket as an anchor
point for your ropes or retractable.
Predator Solar Mounts installation guide. All rights reserved. Version 1
Panel support clamp
The panel support clamp functions the same as the base clamp.
Continues the unbroken ground bond from panel to panel on the row
and column.
When installing, place any wires you have in the channel then place the
clamp over the panel either as an added support where there isn’t a
mount for the row above or where two panel butt up next to each
other on that row.
Once the first row of panels has been placed in the clamp using the ½”
socket tighten the bolts to 15lbs of torque. You can then insert the
following row of panels into the clamp when needed. Any more than
this and you risk breaking the panel. Rows within the array tighten to 4
lbs. once the above panel is rocked into place
Mechanical load designs and weights.
Test Design load Test Load

Upward pressure 150.0 lbs/ ft^2 300.0 lbs/ ft^2
Sloped load 150.0 lbs/ ft^2 300.0 lbs/ ft^2 Minimum mechanical load test.
The panel support clamp looks
identical to the base clamp with
one difference, there is no nut
in the middle. This piece
attaches and supports panels
where they butt up next to
each other. Grounding path
goes not only from panel to
panel horizontally but vertically
as well for each clamp. The
bottom row of clamps is where
the skirt attaches.
Caution any panels broken due
to over tightening are the sole
responsibility of the installation
company. Predator Solar
Mounts cannot be held responsible.
All nuts and bolts are prepackaged
and included in the unit box.
Once installation Is complete periodic
inspections will be performed in
accordance to the installation
companies’ quality control
requirements but no less than twice
a year. Parts undergo Quality
inspection 500 parts per thousand
after production and again after
assembly before shipping.

Design Load Ratings in each direction for each module is determined by calculating safety factor according to: Design Load Rating = Applied Test
Load / 1.5. Table 2 indicates the Design Load Ratings for the tested module coating thickness rather than by manufacture for use on the APEX
system. The criteria for this Qualification by Similarity is based on verification that approved modules from the same manufacturer must have
identical frame coatings to the tested module and must be the same (or lower) surface area.

Caution and warning page
Wire management is the responsibility of the installation company and installer. However, to assist with this we
have included in the middle of each clamp a channel where wires can be inserted. This channel will accommodate two
3/8” wires, or 4 #10 wires on either side of the bolts. Any additional wire management needs are left up to the individual
company and their policies.
Mounts are not to be used are safety attachment locations. Do not bolt, tie or screw anchors, ropes, harnesses or
retractables to the mounts. Injuries obtained by persons doing this are not the responsibility of Predator Solar
Mounts. Please use proper safety equipment and practices as outlined by osha and your company’s safety policies.
The APEX system is to be rated and used with every panel on the market with an adjustable clamp thickness up
to 3” and down to 3/4" inches without the need for additional parts or bolts.
Flashing codes The national and state codes for referring to the flashing ( irc code chapter 9 section r903.2 flashing). And we meet the
requirements also those in section r905.2.5 for fasteners and those in section m2302.2.2. there isn't a code written that states the
flashing has to go under the shingles just has to seal. The reason for the wording is thus, if they wrote a code that there had to
be a flashing or waterproofing that goes under the shingles they directly go against a previous code for the shingles requirement
to seal to one another and void warranties for which they could be held liable. For this reason, we warranty the system.
The Type of flashing that we use uses a tar that seeps into and around the lag bolt when the lag is tightened.
Predator Solar Mounts
Installation codes
Per the IBC code section 1507.17.2 (reference IRC R905.15.2) flashing are to be installed per manufactures installation
requirements for that weather zone. If that zone includes snow you may use the following algorithm to calculate the
snow load and reference the parts load sheet to verify it will hold the load. Pg=(Po^2 + S^2(A- Aoo)^2)^.5 where
Pg= ground snow load
Po= base ground snow load psf
S= change in snow load
A=elevation (ft/1000)
Ao= snow elevation
Per the IRC, NFPA70 and NBC the codes for pv installation and revisions made in the 2015 manuals state the following.
IRC section m2302.2.2 see IRC chapter 9
Predator Solar Mounts installation guide. All rights reserved. Version 1
IRC chapter 9 section R903.2 flashings are to be installation using proper sealing methods approved and listed in the
Manufacturers installation manual.
R905.2.5 Fasteners are to be weather resistance materials such as stainless, aluminum or rust resistant materials
R909.1 see sections R909.2- R909.6 for pv installation requirements
R909.3 flashing installation and requirements per manufacturer requirements.
R907.4 Installaton
R324.4 see R909.3
NFPA70 of the NEC code- electrical requirements for pv systems is to be in alignment with the UL 2703 requirements and
be certified as such either with a stamp on the piece or literature to accompany parts and manuals. Also wire
management codes and requirements.
There are no codes stating that flashing have to go under the shingles due to once the shingle seal is broken the
warranty on that shingle and the surrounding areas is void. The code cannot nor will it ever state that a flashing that
goes under the shingle is required. Only that flashing and waterproofing should follow the guidelines set forth by the
manufacturer so the manufacturer accepts all responsibility for weather proofing failures if such failure is a result caused
by the installation manual processes and procedures.
If there are any questions or a city has shown an aversion to our type of flashing please notify us and we will
approach the territories officials for you.

Warranty information Warrantees against roof leaks and the subsequent damage must meet the following criteria.
The pre-install warranty form has been filed with predator solar mounts. Pictures of the install and sealing process have
been taken and are readily available upon request. If there is a leak that happens it has been thoroughly investigated with
pictures of the leak from the exterior of the roof, from the attic and accompanied with pictures of any damage. All claims
must go through predator solar mounts claim department and will be addressed within 48 hours. We will send out an in-
house appraiser if possible or a contracted third-party appraiser. The following form must be filled out and filed for every
job that uses the Apex Flashing. If it is found that the leak was installer caused the installer will be liable for all damages.
If the leak originated due to a failure of the sealant on the flashing. Predator solar mounts will file the claim with
the sealant company and reimburse any cost associate with the repairs. This is to ensure that the end customer, or the
customer with the solar mounts on their roof can have their repairs processed as quickly as possible without incurring more
damages.
Roof types and quality for a valid claim. If the roof has fiberglass, extremely weathered and worn shingles or any
missing shingles. The roof cannot be warrantied. The warranty will only cover roofs that are less than five years old and
were installed by a reputable roofing contractor. Proof of date and contractor will be required at the time of the initial
warranty registration.
For proper seal and warranty validity the following precautions must be taken. On standard shingle or composite
shingles that have 15-year warrantees install the flashing as instructed. If the roof is a 15-year warranty shingle we will
prorate the remainder of the life of the roof. Example: roof A was installed in 2014 with 15-year shingles. It is now 2016.
Meaning the shingles have 13 years left in their life. We will warranty the seal for those 13 years only.
Example 2: Roof B was installed in 2005 with a 50-year shingle. This roof has 39 years left. We will warranty the
seal for the full 20 years of the install.
Example 3: roof C was installed in 2002 with a 15-year shingle. This roof has fiberglass showing and torn shingles
on the roof. We will not warranty the seal due to the degradation of the roof.
For executive and presidential type shingles, the shingles are thicker than the coating. To properly seal, if the pilot
hole is not in the exact center of the shingle (see example 1) remove the outer most layer in an approved manner. Cutting
it with roofing scissors, cutting only what is needed to install the flashing correctly.
Pictures must be submitted for these types of roofs. If installed correctly following the proper guideline of
installation we will warranty the seal for 20 years if there is a minimum of 20 years left on the life of the shingles.
