Dear Parents, Guardians, and Educators,
After many years as a classroom teacher, I founded Chalkboard Publishing based
on my firm beliefs that learning should be enjoyable and that all children can
succeed. As a teacher, I understand the need for curriculum exercises that are
clear, practical, and easy to use. As a parent, I also appreciate the need for a
format that lends itself perfectly to the lives of busy families who want to support
their children’s learning at home.
At Chalkboard Publishing, we are passionate about creating high-quality
educational materials that feature practical and stimulating activities to support
learning and reinforce essential concepts. Our aim is not only to educate and
engage students, but also to encourage them to feel confident about their
abilities and to feel capable of high achievement.
Chalkboard is a leading provider of high-quality supplementary educational
materials for Grades K–6. The comprehensive content reflects current curriculum
standards and incorporates best teaching practices. We are committed to
enhancing the educational experience for children through dynamic activities
and questions designed to be relevant to everyday life. I’m always interested in
hearing what teachers and parents have to say about our materials, so please
feel free to contact me at info@chalkboardpublishing.com.

Math Basics Tips
These activities are based on the five strands of math and are designed to help reinforce essential math skills with consistent practice. The activities are ideal for individual use or as a class exercise.
• Review instructions with children to ensure they understand the questions. Some children may benefit from guided reading of instructions.
• Have children highlight or underline the important information.• Encourage children to complete the answers they know how to do first.• Provide math manipulatives and other concrete materials for children to use during the
completion of activities.• Create additional questions based on the examples in this book to enhance the learning of
these concepts and activities.• Offer children ample opportunities to talk about the thinking processes they used to arrive at
their answers.• Encourage children to use pictures, charts, words, and numbers to show their thinking in their
notebook as they complete questions. • Adapt this book to suit the needs of individual children. For instance, you may wish to do a
whole week of activities in one day or select a concept to review over a few days.• Take advantage of this online math dictionary tool where children can review the definitions of
math terms: www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com
